I just installed some LED tailights and signals on the XG. The lights look nice, the light looks rich, although i need load resistors to get rid of the hyper flashing and the broken light indicator. What would be the best areas to install the load resistors in the trunk and in the engine compartment to make these lights work properly?

Betz698,

Isn't there ample room between the tailight housing and the interior trunk wall? I assume you've been poking around there if you've swapped out the filament bulbs for LEDs so maybe these load resistors are larger than I'm imagining.

I looked for a while at replacing the taillight bulbs with LEDs, but couldn't find anything that would appear to work well. If you're happy with what you've got I'd like to know more: what LEDs did you install, how much, and where'd you get them?

Last of all, pics speak a thousand words so post some please. Before/after pics even better!

Will post pics very soon. I just have to get my hands on a digital camera.

Load resistors are in place, The front resistors mounted behind the headlight housings with blue wire taps attatched to signal wires in the background, back turn signal resistor mounted on the metal part of tailight housing.

The bulb itself, Ledtronics 24 LED bayonet bulb with 18 LEDs facing foward, 6 emit light to the sides. THe pic doesn;t do it justice since my camera had a flash and the brake wasn't applied to the tailight. Gonna post car pics soon!

Very cool. As I said before, I'd been interested in an LED upgrade and you're giving me the motivation to look into it again. Thanks for posting the pis and looking forward to some exterior shots!

Hey Betz698, just visited the Ledtronics site and I can't find the LED you mentioned above for the brake light. Is it an automotive LED or from another portion of the site? What's the part number? Thanks.

It's a neat cosmetic change, but the load resistor thing is a crock.

Yes, you need it to cludge the led resistance, but the proper solution would be change the timing circuit to a electronic one, and remove the bulb out section of the circuit.

No way would I ever add a 50watt resistor for a non-DOT replacement system.

You want a LED brake light, fine, but the 1157's are not the 'PROPER' solution.
