My PA710RDS radio is stuck on LO. When using Traffic Announcements (TA) they only come up in the local area where the radio was originally tuned in. When travelling distances - no TA. I have to retune every 30 miles to get TA. Anyone know how to switch the LO off? Any other ideas?

I am also having problems with the same radio.
I cannot get any TA at all - even though I know I am tuned to stations that operate it.
I was told the radios are made by Siemens but there seems to be no detail online. The operating instructions in the manual are pretty useless.

I have the same problem on the PA710RDS Radio fitted in my i10 1.2 Comfort. My favourite station is a low power local one and to get worthwhile reception I need to have the radio switched to DX mode (long distance) rather than being stuck in LO mode (local station). It goes to DX mde when the ATS button is pressed but when done goes back to LO. I haven't yet found a way to permanently switch it to DX. Grrr! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Any suggestions ..... TIA uncletony

by the way i would also like to know, my local radio station plays a bit crackly. One very simple thing - put the aerial up as vertical as you can get it, to get the strongest signal. I get mote traffic announcements since I did that, though still not as many as I got in my previous car.

QUOTE (goodoldboy @ Oct 11 2009, 03:30 PM) Seems like Uncle Tony knows his way around these things. What's the answer Unc? I have been 'messing' around with the radio in my i10 for weeks, and it is still pretty rubbish. The radio seems sensitive enough (picks up weak/far away staions OK) but because it seems to generate a high level of internal noise those stations easily get wiped out. I think thats why the TA doesn't work so well (not that I need that facility in this part of Scotland). I don't think the aerial helps very much either. It is technically the correct length for the FM band (0.75m), and is a good compromise for getting MW and LW. I have tried putting an amplifier in the aerial cable, but that only made a marginal improvement. I took out the Hyundai radio and put in a Panasonic unit and that worked MUCH better with and without the amplifier (thanks to Lars for the superb guidance on removing the radio). I am now thinking about drilling a hole in the roof near the tailgate and putting in an amplified bee-sting aerial (like VW/Opel/Vauxhall, etc), but haven't built up the courage yet! Replacing the radio permanently is another option, but that means getting a doubleDIN fascia (the i10 specific kits on eBay should be OK - I have had several email exchanges with a techie guy at 'Connects2' who tells me the Double DIN fascia CT23HY07 is the one needed, but I haven't bought one!) and an appropriate DIN cage for the new radio ... quite a lot for me to consider, especially as my i10 is a family car, so I have to keep it looking pretty! It is a real shame that such a good little car as the i10 is spoilt by such a poor in-car entertainment unit. I'd much rather a good head-unit than an air-conditioner! Regards to All

QUOTE (shedloads @ Nov 7 2009, 09:28 AM) Must say I am a bit baffled by this radio.
9) Is there a cheap solution to mounting a replacement radio? So if the Hyundai radio can not be replaced under warranty I would be happy to replace it with a cheap Lidl radio from my old car, it has USB, Blue tooth phone connection, SD card, auxillary input and perfect reception. The only alternative I know of is a replacement "Double-Din" facia panel of which there are several on the 'i10' section of eBay, priced at £39.95 and £34.95 depending which you choose. This wouldn't allow you to fit a single 'Din' radio (which I imagine your Lidl radio is) unless there is some sort of extra panel cover available in addition, and I'm not aware af a "single-Din" facia being available, but you could always ask a local car radio specialist as they may know of one. If you went down the 'double-din' route, you'd need a new radio too, which could be expensive, although they are now available with TV, DVD player, Sat-Nav etc. all built in if you so wish. Guess it depends on how much you want to spend,- personally, I never bother with the radio, just use an iPod 'shuffle' plugged into the 'Aux' port, and I find that perfectly acceptable, and my choice of music too, not some of the 'dross' played by certain staions I won't name! LC.

Folks - I hope you're talking about the sme thing I'm experiencing. My new i10 has poor radio reception and every now and again it cut's out for a fraction of a second - is this the "Travel news" kicking in. If so - how do I get rid of it. If not - it's back to the garage.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the replies. Limestone Cowboy, it looks like a low cost replacement option is not available then but I would have thought that a blanking plate could be fitted to a double din mount. At least there is an option to upgrade if desired. Graham 7, thanks for the link RDS Datasystem Having studied that I am a lot happier with the radio and it seems to be doing what it should do but is let down by the manual supplied. AST without TA selected searches out RDS stations, AST with TA selected searches for stations transmitting a TP (traffic programme flag) and a long press of AST merely cycles through the stations already stored (PSCAN) REG = regional for stations that vary their content by regions. The LO DX (Local/distant) function seems to be working ish, ie if scan is pressed it first searches for LO stations then goes to look for DX stations but if a DX station is then selected the display reverts to LO, which i suppose must be a software error. So the only real fault with the radio is the intermittent cutout when TA is seleced. I can live with that. Cheers

Regards to All Depends on location I suppose. Here, it's difficult to sit in the car unless the airco is on and SWMBO doesn't like the Spanish news station that I favour so we have come to the opposite conclusion. The set that came with our car also plays MP3, so her compilation disks keep us happy on a long journey. The speaker system is not really concert hall standard but neither is it so bad that it offends our septuagenarian ears.
