I think the usual proce for the base GLS is normally around 13,000 $US so that sounds like a very good price for a new car - is it really new or a demo?

Also, sometimes cars that are sold as demonstrators are, in fact, returns. I've even seen cars that were totalled and then sold as demos.

It may just be a great deal but if its a "demo" you'll wnat to get it checked out by a third party.

Sounds to good to be true?.... well it turned out to be a bull.... price, that is what they quoted me, then they called me back to confirm my appointment to come in and we went over the price again, yes same price no mistake, come on in and giver a test drive, so I went down and drove the car, ....nice! ok i'll take it,

Ummm. about that price you were quoted, bla, bla, bla, bla, needless to say I walked out. I am now hunting for an honest dealer, any ideas?

Hi Clammy

I have just bought an 05 Elantra in Australia in the "FX" model- Near equivelant to the US GT. I think thats the step up from the base model.

I got nice alloys (My own choice), spoiler, all on roads and delivery thown in for $20,500 AUS. Which converts to about $16,000 US. Out of nine dealers, this was the best price.

Being the US you should be able to get them a fair bit cheaper then Australia. That might give you a very rough idea...

Visit the US Hyundai site- Find out what they start at (13,229 base model). You should be able to get a good discount depending on your haggling skills. A good dealer will quote you something just under the recomended retail price, then you can haggle from their with other dealers. I'd also chop and change a bit and say what about if you gave me such and such an extra thrown in etc.

anyways-- Good hunting

Clint

Another suggestion, dont go in with a trade in either. You will be able to do much better without one. There should be some spring sales happening in your area as they seem to be happening everywhere else.

I live in St Louis Missouri and three weeks ago I purchased a hatchback with auto matic transmission for $12,000.

I checked around the area and the average price was $12,200.

I went to the dealership on the last day of the month and it was raining so hard not one customer entered the dealership the entire 2 hours I was there.
The salesman made a slip by saying the month of March had been a slow month for sales. I took adantage of all of the above and said I would pay $12,000 and not a penny more.

They tried to tell me that $12,000 was the price they paid and could not sell it for that. I got up to leave and they finallly agreed.
I calculate they made about $1,100 on the sale.

The hatchback is about $500 more but well worth it because of the ease of storage space. The back seat is easy to remove with 4 bolts holding it in place it can then be folded down to lay flat It can be removed and installed in less than four minutes.
The hatchback also appears to have a more sporty look. Mine came with mud flaps.

This is a great car.

Wow

Here the hatch and the sedan are the same price. I went the hatch too and got a spoiler attached and some nice alloys. I agree that the hatch looks alot more sporty.

just walk into the dealership, tell them what you want, you are ready to buy, and willing to pay invoice... I work at a nissan dealership, and if someone does that for us, we skip the drive and everything, and sign them up, in and out in about an hour... i assume most other dealerships would operate the same way, its a unit they move, and they dont lose money, give it a shot
