Hi folks,

I have had my Santa Fe for a month now and am still getting poor gas consumption and I want to get some idea if it is just my car with the problem or is it the model.

I have a 2005 Santa Fe. 2.7l 6 Cyl, Front Wheel Drive.

I have been averaging about 14L/100Km. The best that I have seen (on a trip with 90% highway) is around 12.2 L/100Km. I have driven it around 2200 km so far and I use 87 octane regular unleaded fuel.

I would really like to hear your experiences and see if any of you have some advice. My dealer just said wait until the 2000km is done and it will settle down and " it is just because of the cold weather" ?!?!?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

My 2.7GLS 6cyl is 3 weeks today. Not sure how much help this will be as I don't know about LT - but in US gallons, but my mileage isn't all that great either. First tank I put in (not from dealer) averaged about 19.5mpg - today I filled up and it was barely over 17mpg! Wasn't happy about this. PLUS, yesterday, I started to notice it feeling a little jerky.

I'm not in the cold weather - quite the opposite - FLORIDA

hello
i have also just bought a 2005 santa fe v6 auto. My fuel consumption using high octane unleaded on the highway has been betwee 11,9 and 14l/100km.

In town it has been awful > 16l/100km.

I have taken the car in to the manufacturers because of this and because the car seems to be "hunting" for a top gear. They have done some adjustements and will know the result on the present tank.

My feeling is that the real fuel consumption is rather high...unless Hyundai can maybe give us some tips / or their agents some tips on how to improve the situation

I get about 24mpg - that's imperial gallons on the V6 2.7 4wd model in the UK. I feel that this is quite reasonable, but consumption will depend on what type of motoring you do - heavy traffic/fast roads/city etc. also the air con tends to use quite a bit of power - could be a couple of mpg.

Alan,

Unfortunately, I have no idea how 24mpg (imp) matches to L/100Km. I do know that the amount that I am getting is at or below the worst level reported in the sales literature. I am doing a mix of highway and in city driving, but even during a test where I put several hundred km's of pure highway traffic on, my mileage only reached the middle of the range.

I have seen, in the Tuscon forum, that they seem to be experiencing similar difficulties with what appears to be the same engine (I doubt that Hyundai makes 2 different 2.7L v6 engines).

I am hoping that this all goes away but I am concerned that it might be a design problem.

Thanks

Richard, I frequent another board dedicated to SF owners that have many Canadians on there that you'd probably be able to find a better answer to your question when it comes to liter. I'm old school and only know gallons.

I myself posted a question about mpg on there as well, here is the link:

MPG QUESTION

They also have forums for those members outside the US

hi all , well..... it seems to me most people here dont know much about new cars ? am i right , anyway , most engines these days are "run in " at the factory , but this does not mean that the rest of the car is , if you have poor milage , try a few things , first , check your tyre pressure , as low air will tend to drag the car causing poor performance , second , do you smell fuel ? while car is running , and of course , there is the driving habit , quick start, sudden stop , driving like a mad man on fire , or labouring the engine , can all cause poor milage
, but as my problem ? i need to know is there anyone can tell me on the v6 3.0 litre , in the sonata 1990 model , can i get the valve spring remover in , i want to use the type where i dont have to take the cyl head off , but not sure if the tool will fit in , and i dont want to take off the tappet cover to check as yet ,
can anyone tell me ?

hi, i am from south africa. i have a new 2005 santa fe v6 auto. on a recent trip i was pleasantly surprised at consumption figures of 11,6 11,5 and 10,6 litres per 100km on highway driving. (air con off). These figures were achieved after Hyundai made some adjustments on the computer. I think the air con causes higher consumption.

I am hoping that my town driving consumption of 16 litres per 100km will also improve.

I must say that my experience with Hyundai service  in South Africa has been great.

I bought the Santa Fe for long distance comfort riding....and so far it has delivered the goods. Am looking forward to see how it performs in the heat

SUV,

Were you given any details on what changes were made to the computer? That could prove to be of interest to many owners.

thanks,

hi
as above.....they adjusted the co2 and also changed spark plugs.

the jerking you have........is it present with the air con on? if yes the jerking may be related to the air con coming on.

better take it to hyundai for a check

Just bought a new 2005 Santa fe a few weeks ago. Now the check engine light is on. Everything is ok as far as oil, temp when running, etc. Will call dealer tomorrow on Monday. This seems to be a common problem with Hyundai.
Fuel economy seems ok when not towing. 26 hiiiway not towing. 14 towing 1800 pounds. Dam I should of bought a yota.

Checked fuel milage today....5-21-05.
59.9 miles...used 2.2 Gallons. Thats highway at 55-60, and traveling threw some towns at 35,25,etc. No heavy foot stuff. I'l be happy with that if it keeps up. :P

I hate to admit it, because I really do like the 2003 Santa Fe, but the truth is, I have never gotten the advertised gas mileage for the past 2 years. I have almost 20,000 mile on it and get an average of about 13mpg. I have an all wheel drive 6 cyl version. Good Luck

These cars do not have emission control systems. No catalytic converter, no lambda sensor. Power is down and consumption is high. Hyundai have been selling us their rubbish obsolete technologies. Africa is the dumping ground once again. They are not going to get away with it. I've reported the matter to the Dept. of Environmental Affairs, SABS, Green Scorpions, etc.

They have been selling these vehicles in contravention to the Standards Act, which stipulates that vehicle models introduced into SA after 1 Feb 2005 must have emission control system fitted. 2008 models are being sold without cats.

I can send you more info if you want.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but having no CAT would increase power. Right???? but not good for the environment.
