Hello, I love my 07 Tuscon. The fuel I get is about 24-25mpg which isn't all that bad. I didn't realize I purchased the security package with the car. The dealer tried to charge me for it but I think it was because it was already installed.

My problem is that the system will go into alarm for no reason what-so-ever. My car will go into alarm about every 20 minutes on its own. Nobody tried to get in, nobody walked by it, etc. I first thought it was my keys in my pocket hitting the alarm button. So I took the only two keys and put them on the table. Still goes into alarm. Basically I have to lock the car from the door button in order to not arm the alarm.

Anybody know if there is a setting or some way to troubleshoot and find out what is causing the alarm? There's barely a description as to how the security system works in the owners manual. The only aftermarket thing I installed was about 2 years ago a trailer hitch with a wiring kit that had all the harnesses pre-terminated, so I don't think that is causing the problem but I'm open to some troubleshooting.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I may post this in the general forum as well because I do not think its specific to the Tuscon.

I looked at it last night when I got home and after searching here, I decided the most possible cause to be the hood. So I disconnected the sensor and taped it off. So far so good, havn't heard the alarm since. I was not able to find the security cpu though. It is supposed to be under the steering colum and to have a sensitivity screw on there and I couldn't even find the box.

I haven't got that feature with my UK spec tucson and I rekon that if its going into alarm then really its a dealer issue as they fitted it as an aftermarket part and everything should work without you adjusting anything. Your bonnet switch is also part of the Hyundai immobiliser/alarm system so get the dealer to change this switch if you find that you have solved the problem.

Cheers

Ok thanks. How do you do with the warranty issues? No questions asked? The security system is something they put into all US hyundais. Its factory installed. Its a very basic alarm.

JIn the UK if we have a problem then as and if the vehicle is still under warranty then take it into the dealer-describe the fault and anything you found and ask them to resolve it under the terms of the warranty- If its not a warranty item they will no doubt tell you as they will expect payment for their work. In your case a faulty Bonnet switch then its a faulty part that should be a warranty item.

agree with Itsa.. this sounds like a warranty issue.. take it to the dealer and have them fix.. the trailer hitch more than likely has nothing at all to do with the security issue...

I have never found a bad hood switch, an there is no adjustment, What I have found that either people have body work done(hood work)
an there is a rubber bumper on the hood that pushing the switch that the body shop forgets to put back on. Or it just some how falls off
Either way its a very cheep fix! check to see if you see a bumper on the hood? if not get one Hyundai part # is 92736-3A000 Hope this Helps
