Wondering whether anyone else has had any issues with iPOD's crashing (requires recovery) when connected to the iPOD cable when the car is switched off.

We have had several occasions where the iPOD simply freezes after about 30 mins of inactivity. When the radio is working (and before the iPOD freezes) the radio functioons work fine, with access to folders, play lists etc.

When the problem occurs The iPOD is blank, and no buttons work. The radio shows "AUX Connected". When you connect the iPOD to the host computer, it installs a recovery USB driver and iTunes says that it must recover the iPOD to factory defaults. Doingso restores the iPOD to factory defaults, so you can then re-download all of your music to the device.

This happens without fail, after about 20 mins of the car being off.

Naturally no one in the service centre has had this issue before.

Radio SW version is V1.0.0 AUS

I have had similar problems with our ipod, did you notice if the ipod was completely discharged. It seems we now have to completely charge the ipod at home before we go out in the car, then when it runs out, it just crashes and shows all the characteristics that you described above. Funny thing is, my dealer has never seen the problem before either and is now saying, although it worked when we first got the car, that it is normal. Waiting for someone higher in the food chain to find out whats going on.
