Hello

I was just wondering if anyone can help me ?

I use my son's Hyundai Excel Hatchback sometimes (as it is very cheap on fuel) and while driving it, two dash lights were on.

One was of an exclamation mark in a circle and the other was a capital P in a circle.

As we don't have a manual and my son knows nothing about cars I was wondering if somebody out there could inform us what these two red lights on the dashboard mean ?

Thanks if anyone can help,

(!) Maybe means something with the engine?

(P) probably means parking brake?

Definitely take it to a mechanic or dealer asap either way, as you should never have any dash lights on.

The capital P in a circle usually means the handbrake is on. The exclamation mark probly means the ecu feels the engine needs servicing

The parking brake symbol is the (P) and your regular brake system warning is the (!) symbol. These two systems use the same light to alert you.

If your parking brake is set, the light will be on.  Make sure it is fully released.

If the light is still on, then you likely have a problem with the regular brake system.  On these cars, the light usually represents a low brake fluid level.  Check the fluid level for the brake master cylinder under the hood.  It may be low because your brake pads are shot, so consider that possibility before adding fluid.

It isn't safe to continue driving if this light is on, your braking system may fail when you need it most.
