I just Purhased a 2001 Elantra and the clutch is out of adjustment. When I let out on the clutch I have to give the car some gas or it will stall. I know where the clutch mechanism is but does anyone know how to adjust it?? Please let me know.

You will have to specify exactly what the problem is.
If you engage the clutch with no rpm, then the engine is supposed to stall.
If you let the clutch out with no rpm whilst it is in gear and it slips, then you have a major problem.
Please specify, or even give an example then we will help.

The clutch does not slip The only problem is taking off in first gear. It seems that you have to ride the clutch a little more than normal. After first gear everything is fine. I think that the clutch just needs to be adjusted a little.

It`s a hydraulic clutch.......the only `adjustment` is really to bleed the system of any air bubbles.

Nick.

This really doesn't sound like a clutch problem

With a bad clutch you would normally expect to have slipping (excessive wear) or trouble shifting into 1st or reverse (The clutch plate is coming apart and not fully disengaging)

If you have to ride the clutch to get moving, it could mean that the engine is not developing enough power at low rpms to get the car moving.

Unfortunately it could be a lot of things - from the ignition timing being off to a faulty knock sensor. It could even be something as simple as a dirty air filter.

But since the car seems to be running well otherwise I wouldn't expect it would be anything too serious.

I think your best bet would be to take it to a Hyundai dealer or someone who can use a scanner to pull the data codes - it takes about two minutes.

The two-litre engine normally produces quite a bit of low-end torque - enough that on a level surface you should be able to get the car moving without using the gas pedal at all.

Thats just my take - otheres on the board are sure to have some better ideas.
