Hi All!

I am the very proud owner of a 2003 Terracan 2.9D auto with 40k on the clock.
Can't believe how good it is towing my boat and coping with all sorts of slipways/beach launches - and all for a TENTH of what my friend paid for his Range Rover Sport... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Only problem is that the tailgate lock jammed yesterday and no matter what I do, it won't unlock. Have tried spraying WD40 silicon lubricant into the lock and inside the presshandle itself but no joy. The rest of the central locks work fine, with the sound of the tailgate lock also working too.

Am wondering if the use of the tailgate washer has run grit and dirt down into the handle recess and jammed it?

Any ideas? Am a little desperate as am due to head off in two weeks for a boating expedition for my 40th and it's going to be "interesting" with no opening tailgate...eek!

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Bob and welcom to the forums sounds like the central locking on the tailgate has stopped and could be from a loose wire.
I am no techy but will say that if you come onto www.hyundaiowners.co.uk and ask admin who is a Hyundai specialist I am sure that he will help you especially as you haven't heard anything from anyone on this forum to date.
Cheers

Itza

Hi Itza!

Many thanks for the welcome advice!
As it turned out, the lock started working again a few days ago and was working perfectly,
Until today...I thought that it had been a loose connection. Funnily enough, I did hear a slight sloshing sound as I closed the tailgate and had thought that perhaps a slight ingress of water had shorted a central locking connection (?).

Of course, when I finally get the time to have a decent look, and unscrew the lock housing to inspect within, all seemed fine, and was even working on the remote...but after screwing it back together - it stopped working again. Ho - hum!

But I shall post a message on the Hyundai Owners site as you suggest!

Thanks again, Itza, appreciate it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

Update...

Was scanning the forum and realised that I hadn't updated this...
In the end was easily sorted - the press-in bar underneath the tailgate handle has clogged up with dirt etc and so wouldn't spring back into it's "out" position.

Cure was to remove one of the number plate light fittings using a flat blade screwdriver, and then using this aperture to gently lever the bar back into the "out" position with the same screwdriver.
To keep it moving freely, probably best to lubricate using graphite powder (as used my locksmiths) as opposed to the likes of silicone-based spray which may attract more dust/grit etc.

Have been keeping an eye on it since carrying out the above and all's been well.....phew!

Cheers,
T'bob.
