I have inherited a 1990 Excel from my Mom who says the car had issues...she drives mainly short distances, around 5-10 miles. Sometimes when she would try to re-start the car after about 10 minutes, she would get nothing....no click, no grind. The car has a known good battery with clean terminals. When I drove the car to my house, (about 20 miles) the car began to skip and stutter after about 18 miles...we managed to limp in the rest of the way, but now the car won't crank up at all. It will turn over for as long as I will keep the key turned, but not even a sniff of a crank. Now, she had a very LOUD fuel pump...I don't recall hearing it on the trip up here, so I'm thinking that may be the issue...it needs to be replaced anyway. I'm wondering if anyone else ever had a set of issues like these and what ended up fixing it? Thanx in advance!

BTW....it's an auto tranny.

have you ever changed the fuel filter? Sounds like a fuel problem..start by changing the fuel filter..its relatively cheap..could be clogged but coould also be FUEL PPRESSURE regulator...have some one check it to see if the fuel pressure is okay and if fuel regulator is okay..the pump is hard to replace..good luck
