I have a 99 accent and just replaced the right front brake pads, did everything right sanded rotor cleaned everything put shims in checked smooth sliding of caliper on pin bolts OK now on road test for about 8 miles felt the left side front wheel lugs and were warm to touch, now felt right side just replaced replaced with the new pads and was hotter near center of wheel and lug nuts, is this a common thing when the pads are thick and new and rotors not turned down because they were OK?Will it run cooler when it wears in.??? :o

question is, why did the one side wear down, and the other side not. Pads must wear eaqually on both sides.
Are the caliper sliders of the right side free moving ??
Were both pads of the right caliper worn evenly ??

Ok the reason I could not finish the other side was my wife wanted to go to the store and I figured this is the time to test drive the one side I did, and it does stop even and yes the other side is going to be done ,my question was is it normal for the brakes when new and not broken in yet ,they are a little hotter to the touch on the lugs after a 7 mile run] yes the pads were both evenly worn. I belive on a toyotaa along time ago I had the same question and when it wore in the heat also went away.what do d you think

fi you did continues braking on & off, then yes they get warm. the other side may not brake as well. did you fit "silver anti seize compout" to the pad to carrier contact points ??
What is the miliage ??
here is someting else to look out for, if the hand brake is not correctly adjusted, then the rear brakes will not properly self adjust. This can lead to early pad wear and disc warpage.
here is what to do
First, you loosen that center nut from the h-brake handle main cable(under the center console at its rear end), until there is a tiny bit of play between the nut and the "YOKE". Then you adjust the rear brake shoes brakes. For this, you have to remove the wheels & drums.
<< OR >>,
You let rear brakes do it themselves. Now, since the rear "SELF ADJUSTERS" are in the proper position (due to the fact, that the h-brake free-play has been established), they will adjust the rear brakes bit-by-bit every time you apply the brakes.
At the beginning, you may notice that the pedal may be too low, but it will come up more & more after each brake application.
Once the brake is fully “SELF ADJUSTED” (which won’t take too long), you will never need to adjust the foot or hand brake again. A correctly adjusted h-brake must have 6 to 9 notches when pulled.

Just to re-emphasise.........BOTH front wheels MUST have their pads replaced at the same time!.........you are lucky not to have ended-up in a ditch, OR the opposite lane!!.

It`s normal for new pads to generate some heat, until they are bedded-in enough to remain clear of the discs during unbraked driving.

Cheers,
Nick.

HOLY CRAP! you seriously replaced just 1 pad! thats probably one of the worst things you could do! WOW! good thing you drive a Hyundai! because it would suck if you put a nice car in the ditch! seriously just finnish a job before driving, you could have killed someone. and yes, new brake pads run hotter at the start, but once it wears though a bit it should be fine
