Thanks montego. The problem isnt specifically when the engine is cold. It did it 5 times on wednesday (throuhout the day) but has been fine since, including this morning, when it was very cold. I am a bit worried as i have heard about problems with the fuel pumps and hope it isnt the start of something serious. The car drives normally and starts normally for most of the time, and no warning lights have come on, so i am hoping its not anything to do with the fuel pump. The coolant temp reading seems fine (it stays at just under half on the gauge once warm). Anybody got any other ideas? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I had an intermitent idle problem with mine as well (2005 CRDi manual), only thing was that it would go from 800rpm up to 1000 rpm for no apparent reason. The problem then became constant, but if you just touched to brake pedal so the brake lights came on the idle would drop back down to 800rpm.
The final solution was to replace a faulty knock sensor. Once again no fault codes showed up, but one other vehicle here in Oz had had a similar problem and it was found on the Hyundai dealers forum site.
My knock sensor may have failed in full advance and yours might have failed in fully retarded (just a guess).

There was a survey done by the Terracan forum in Oz and out of 49 respondants 5 had suffered a pump failure. There seems no real trend to the failure other than they may occur a short time after the fuel filter is replaced if the fuel system is not primed properly and the pump operates dry for a short period of time. I think all fuel pump failures have also required the entire fuel system to be replace due to metal from the failing pump going through the injectors and fuel lines. You can check this subject on the Oz forum at http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?sh...mp;#entry116358

The plot thickens. The 'can failed to start again today, but this time the glow plug indicator did not illuminate!!! Left it for 5 minutes and the car started perfectly! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) This is looking more and more like an electrical gremlin to me. The trouble is unless the fault shows up in dealer they cant diagnose any faults! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) I would be grateful for any help!! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/57.gif)

Update! Had the 'can back from dealers today. The problem was a faulty rail pressure sensor. This involved changing the whole common rail and fuel pipes. It eventually showed up as a fault code. I hope this helps anyone with a similar problem! Its great to have the beast back after 4 days with a 3 door suzuki swift (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Thanks to everyone who helped (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)
