Hey All

Dropped a 3K deposit on my new 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 w/ tech package last Thursday and the dealer just called... My New Car will be here Next Thursday!!!!!! (Got her in black with black leather.)

The only question I have is rather simple:

I have read reports online that the 4.6 with the Tech Package has a 40 Gig hard drive that you can store music on... Is this true??? I never read anything about it on the Hyundai website or the cars brochure....

If it doesn't, can I plug my 8 Gig memory stick into the onboard USB port and listen to the songs straight off there? (Would save a lot of clumsy CD's...)

PS: I will load lots of pics when I get her next week!

I thought I remeber reading that the HD was for the Nav system, not for music...but I could be wrong. I am sure I have seen a post or 2 about being able to read mp3 files off of a memory stick though.

Currently, the hard drive access is limited to the NAV system. Future firmware updates may change that.

Any USB flash drive will work and also give album/song info on the screen as well. I have several 2 and 4 GIG drives I use routinely.

There is free space on the Genesis HDD. About 5 to 8 GB or something like that still available. Hyundai did mention it might have a JPEG viewer. A new map update is coming on 1.31.09 by mapnsoft.com/. They will be selling the Genesis Nav Discs. They probably take data from Navteq and resell it. The Genesis DIS is made by Harman Becker Automotive Systems and not LG/Hyundai Autonet.

Still no update from mapnsoft.com in regards to the Genesis. Maybe it will come out later. Hyundai might have chosen someone else to resell the maps for the DIS. The DIS controls the navi, HVAC, backup camera, AV, and Automotive stuff through a control knob. Only the tech package gets the DIS. DIS Map updates would be done by DVD. Harman Becker Automotive system is the OEM for the DIS not LG.

Called Mapnsoft yesterday and an update is in the works. You get it on a DVD and it will download the data to the DIS. It should take about an hour to update the maps. No word if it reloads the software. She said it will have a security code so you can't use it on another Genesis. This makes it harder to pirate. For all you Genesis owners you should get something in the mail reminding you about this update. I believe the update can be done at home and not a dealer since it requires you to enter a ID to get the security code. Hope this helps in regards for map updates.

MapNsoft says that an update for the Genesis will come out in 2 to 3 months. Of course mapnsoft.com will keep you updated on this update.

The HD is only for NAV, there is talk about using space for personal use but nothing had been done yet! USB stick will work for music, Not sure about using a 8Gig, but I do know 2 will work great! Hope this may help!

Everyone is correct - the hard drive is only for the NAV system. I've had my Genesis since January and I use a 32G USB drive that holds all of my music - all CD's that I loaded onto my PC and then downloaded onto the jump drive, as well as downloaded mp3 format music. Don't have a problem playing it at all. LOVE that I can have my entire music collection in my car without flipping through CD's!

Another 2 to 3 months for a Genesis Map updates. You can only use the disc on one system due to a security code.

A Genesis map update must be in the works. On mapnsoft.com's map update checker it mentions a Genesis test link when searching for 07 Azera maps. The Map Update will require a security code so you can't use this update once. It also requires a ID which you then call mapnsoft to get the security code. You update the system through a DVD which will take about 45 minutes to an hour. Then you enter the security code. Once you do that you're system should be up to date. The update will cost $199.00. The future M&Soft sku is 3C. Hope this helps.
