I just purchased a Garmin nuvi 755T and am experimenting with mounting positions. Has anyone done any creative mounts for their GPS on the 07/08 Elantra? Any ideas and pictures would be appreciated.

Mounted it on the windshield (of course) just to the right of the steering wheel. Ran power cord slightly to the right and then down to the power socket in the console. Cord runs just to left of glove compartment.

I don't know the size of your GPS but.... in my case I try to do whatever it takes to install it just inside the upper pocket in the center... in a way that I can close it when not in use and at the same time it will not compromise visibility when in use... also when not in use it will become invisible

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I've been thinking about getting a ScanGauge II computer and was trying to think of where I could mount it that would look pseudo-factory installed. I was also trying to figure how I might route the power cable from the ECU (I assume under the passenger seat) to keep it concealed. Also, any thoughts are welcome!

I just got a TOMTOM for Christmas and I am mounting it inside that upper pocket as well.. i had it mounted to the lid, but the unit was too heavy and wouldn't let it the lid stay open without me proping it open, so I am mounting it on the bottom of the pocket for the same reason as before.. keeping it concealed... as for the Scangauge I was thinking of getting one too and couldn't think of a good place...

I realize this thread has been dormant for a while, but I would like to bump it ... especially to skiddyk and aruek. I am thinking about trying to mount my Garmin in the upper pocket as you suggest you did with different GPS brands. Could you post some pictures of the mount you constructed along with any tips or suggestions? How hard is it to remove the radio facia and upper pocket without damaging it or the dash? How did you route the power cable? Are there any issues with the GPS signal being blocked by the pocket door? Did you use the GPS built-in antenna or add an external antenna?

I was thinking about some type of sprng loaded hinge with the base mounted to the floor of the pocket on a pivot. Then mount the GPS on to the part of the hinge that sticks up with velcro. But so far I haven't been able to come up anything that will work. Any ideas you have will be appreciated.

Unfortunately.. I'm still working on it.. haven't had time since my original posting.. my ideas were the same as your spring hinge idea.. also I was thinking about a button controlled actuator system so it raises from the dash inside the pocket like the Cadillacs and Lexus factory navi's... that would involve some major cutting and reworking of the clock unit underneath it.. just ideas right now though.. if anyone else has done some custom mounts I'd love to see them, give me some more motivation to actually get working on this. Sorry!!

NOT SURE IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DASH POCKET ON THE 2009 SANTA FE. I HAVE GARMIN 265WT IN THERE USING A STICKY MOUNT AND I CAN OPEN AND CLOSE. WHEN CLOSED, THE GPS IS FULL HIDDEN. WHEN I FLIP IT OPEN, WALA, THE DOOR (WITH STOCK HINGE SYSTEM) FLIPS OPEN AND MY GPS IS EXPOSED. I JUST HAVE TO ANGLE IT TO ME AND BOOM...AN AWESOME GPS UNIT MOUNT
