i also posted this to the ELANTRA dicussion group....................

just picked up my 2005 elantra ten days ago. after a severe temperature drop here in new york (plus some ice coating) the driver side mirror developed a crack. i thought the mirror was hit but it's not shattered just a curved crack. anyone hear of a similar problem? i hope the dealer will honor the warranty.

It sure sounds like a manufacturing defect.

You describe the crack as "curved". If it had been hit with something the crack would most likely be a straight one radiating from the point of impact.

Careful examination of the mirror would show if it had been hit with something that later caused the crack but there would be no way of telling whether that happened before or after delivery.

I'm sure your dealer will want to do the right thing. Let us know how it goes

happy to say the dealer covered it, not without a bit of give & take so to speak. he ended up catagorizing as 'goodwill'.

Hey,

How many miles did you have on your car at the time you got a crack in your mirroir? I work at Auffenberg Hyundai Service over here in ILLinois.
