Is anyone experiencing rear suspension noise in a new 2009 Ltd model. Mine since day one has a sound like the struts are worn out already over rough surfaces mainly from the rear of the vehicle. I have looked the internet over and have found similar complaints with Limited an GLS models but not so much for SE's with the stiffer suspension. It just sounds so cheap for this car. I actually picked this car after riding in one that rode so well and looked so good I had to have one. Now I don't know if I can live with this noise which I'm sure I will be told is normal when I take it in for the first time. I hope Hyundai comes out with a redisigned strut to address this problem or what ever part it takes.

Our '09 Limited doesn't have a worn out strut sound but it does have a weird pop that occurs randomly. It almost sounds like a bushing is compressed and suddenly pops back somewhere in the linkage.

Oh oh, sounds like the same rear suspension troubles and recall in the 06-08 Sonatas. I had most of it fixed with new struts recall plus new strut mounts. One would think Hyundai would have re-engineered and fixed that problem by now!!

I don't think this is the same thing as the previous ones. I had an 06 and for a year tried to get the ka-thunk fixed... until one day they service manager called me and stated they has a TSB on it. This sounds a bit different to me... but maybe even worse, because it makes it with nearly every tiny bump you hit, especially at lower speeds.

Anyone heard anything on this lately?

Mine sounds like it has gotten worse... or maybe it's just because I am more aware of it.

I can hardly hit any bump on the road without it sounding like the struts are bottoming out.

If Hyundai knows about it, then why have they not issued the TSB? Why would they wait 2 months?

More than likely, they're either still working on a solution, or they have a solution but haven't had ample time to produce and distribute the replacement parts to dealers. Remember, just because they're aware of the issue doesn't mean they've come up with a better solution. Patience, my friend.

If that is the case then our tech has no idea what he is talking about... he clearly says it's the same problem/issue. There is already a fix for it... the TSB needs to be issued if it is the same fix. No reason to be patient about something like this.

How's the perception of this problem now? Does anyone know when Hyundai will come up with a fix, I mean the timeframe?

Was this a problem on all Sonatas, or just the non SE Sonatas. I have not noticed a problem, noises or the famous ka-thunk that everyone talks about on my 07 SE. But when I take it in for my next oil change, I will have them check it out (for all tsb's). Will update on what I find out.

Glad to see that we're getting more comments on this topic.
My 09 Limited is far from acceptable when it comes to suspension noise, but if there truly is a TSB coming down the road that will solve the problem, I will take some satisfaction in realizing there's a solution in my future.

We need the number to TSB quarters... let's make a call.
