Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read this.

My Hyundai Excel 1996 runs fine. However, on a semi regular basis the engine will just lose power and then resume as normal. It happens at anytime. I.e. Cold, warm, freeway or backstreets etc. I can have my foot to the floor and the engine does not respond. Before you comment on the throttle position sensor, it's been replaced and the car worked fine.. for a while.

The other day I broke down altogether. I was stopped at a set of lights and the engine just cut out and when I tried to start it again it would turn over but die again unless I pumped the accelerator continiously, in which case it would sputter and struggle to keep going. As luck would have it the problem righted itself just as the RAC turned up and I was able to drive it home. The problem has stumped our local garage, who haven't been able to get the car to fault while they've had it and no error has been logged on the computer.

I have now got it booked into a Hyundai dealership, although I would like some opinions from you all on the forum. I will look forward to any comments. :)

Kind Regards

Nemo

Again, this belongs in the Accent Forum (this forum is for the pre-`94 Mitsu.-engined Excel).......your car is an Accent everywhere but Australia!.

As you have found, Hyundai`s are best looked-after by Hyundai dealerships, who will diagnose problems by scanning the ECU`s stored fault codes & have the specialised knowledge to correct matters.

There could be dozens of causes for your troubles......It`s only possible to make guesses at them on here!.

Nick.

sir you have summarised your complaints i can give my suggestions but basically i have doubt that what this difference you feel at depressing the accelrator pedal because after depressing the pedal to the floor if it rises very slowly then problem isthatyou have not wired the accelerator/throttle position sensor properly so kindly mail what's the difference you feel and compare your complaints as stated below

1.engine hesitates/poor acceleration overcharge
a.this will be due to drive belt loose or worn.
b.wiring connection loose or open circuit.
c.fusible link blown.
d.poor grounding.
e.electronic voltage regulator faulty.
f.worn battery.
g.voltage sensing wire faulty.

2.engine wil not start below 50 c
a.this will be due to wiring connection loose/bad wiring
b.water temperature sensor malfunction
c.glow plug malfunction
d.ECM failed

3.after combustion, engine will stall or rough idle below 50 c
a.this will be due to wiring connection loose/bad wiring
b.glow plug malfunction
c.glow plug relay malfunction
d.ECM failed

so please refer with the above said explanations if you want further deatails please mail me.

Hi all,

Sorry for my ignorance Re posting in the wrong forum. As you can imagine it's an easy mistake to make given the name of my car, and seeing as I had no idea that Mitsubishi made my engine.

I have since taken my car to a Hyundai dealership and they claim to have fixed it, although they can give no guarantee. They seemed to think it was the "crank rotation sensor" that tells the ECM whether the crank shaft is turning or not. If this is not working then ECM stops fuel from getting to the engine (hence the loss of power). I havn't had a chance to really drive the car since getting it back so I don't know if the problem has really been resolved. Though I'd like to think so at $AU 609! :( . (That included a full fuel injector clean out and tune etc)

If I have any more problems I will post the details (in the right forum next time).

Thanks to those who gave their time to read all this and give comments.

Mitsubishi DIDN`T make your car`s engine....... your ACCENT (Excel in Oz & India) has Hyundai`s Alpha engine.

The Hyundai Excel, to which this forum is dedicated, DOES have a Mitsu. motor......
but it went out of production in 1994!.
