My 09 Sonata suspension is way too noisy....after 2 great Tiburons, this Sonata has convinced me that Hyundai is no longer going to be on my list.

I have a 06 Sonata LX and I just got my wife a used 08 Santa Fe but only because the Ford Edge was out of our price range. The level of refinement of the Sonata is just not there. The suspension stinks, brakes wobble, transmission takes forever to shift and first gear is waay to low. I do like the way it looks and it is fast but know the guy in the Fusion, Altima, or Accord next to me is enjoying his drive more than I am. I had a 09 Fusion with the sport package lined up at a great price but I decided to get my wife a truck and take the Sonata. Big mistake for me. I will be going back to Ford for my next car.

I could see a Genesis Coup in our future... If Hyundai ever decides to shoehorn a V-8 into the Genesis Coup, the future would look very bright for one to be in our driveway! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You know if something unplanned happened to my Sonata AND we didn't have another one on lot OR they weren't available at auction. I'd consider a Mazda3, those are nice cars. Not that there's anything wrong with owning a Sonata (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

I would never return to another Hyundai product again. My 09 Sonata has been in the shop over 80 days in one year, had the roadside cancelled because of warrenty claims, exhaust rattling internally, brake pedal fading to the floor, 5 hydraulic blowouts (clutch), suspension that sounds worse than a 10 year old Honda, faulty guages (unreadable odometer), loud knocking in the mornings from the engine, and dealerships that refuse to even set appointments to make it safe.

There are more reasons, but you get the point. This particular car would leave Hyundai bankrupt way before Chrysler. Junk in my opinion. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Very happy with Sharona. I'd buy a wagon, if they built one. Otherwise, a Honda Odyssey would be nice during hockey season, but not at $40 G. So in 2011, my Sonata, with probably 50,000 miles, will be worth $___________ as a trade in???? Did I make the line too long??????? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

Wow, that sounds very odd. In most comparison tests the Fusion was at the bottom because they said its engine was unrefined. And if you read the Nissan forums you will see most complain about the bland plastic interior and harsh ride. Every car has some faults I guess..

If I totaled my Sonata today, and my insurance Co. gave me the $16,600 I paid for it, I would do exactly what I did when I bought my Sonata. I would comparison shop for a big, comfortable, reliable, and safe car that was the best bang-for-buck. From what I know presently, the 2009 or 2010 Sonata would probably win again.

My present car has given me little trouble,,, less than 7 of my 8 other previous new cars. My present car may yet turn out to be "junk", but it will have to hurry.

When I hit the 100,003 mile or in October of 2016, I will be looking at buying the Hyundai Genesis Sedan.

According to Hyundai reps? They are looking to produce a 5.0L V8 in the near future producing 400 hp. And there was even talk of a supercharged/turbocharged version prodcuing over 450 hp.

Would not consider anything other than Hyundai. Since March, my Santa Fe has accumulated another 10,000 miles (bringing her total to 120,000) trekking through almost half of the states. She recently returned to me a 27.7 mpg tank followed shortly by one of 26.3 mpg. And this is the deserts of Arizona, ambient temperatures of 100 to 105ºF and cruising at 75 to 80 mph.

In those 120,000 total miles, the check engine light has not once illuminated, she has not once failed to start, and she's never left me on the side of the road somewhere. I will never get rid of this car but in a year or so, I see myself getting a Genesis 4.6 to replace her in daily driver status. After that, I doubt I'll ever get another new car. The technology they are pioneering to watch you is getting far too intrusive in my book but that's a discussion for another time.

Hyundai has made me a customer for life and unless they do something seriously wrong, I'll never leave them. Honda and Toyota charge far too much for what is quickly becoming an inferior product that attempts to skate by on its reputation than what it has to offer the consumer

My last 5 cars/brands - summary
5) Ford Taurus 88 - piece of junk falling apart sold in 1 month
4) Chevy Cavalier 93 - noisy, small, slow, few features, dirt cheap 128K (only repaired alternator) 5 yrs trouble free wonership
3) Nissan Maxima 94 - quiet nice, good size and features, good price used 60K (over 4K in repairs in 1 month then sold) Previous owner killed this car (this could happen with any used cart IMO
2) Nissan Maxima 96 - quiet, nice front cabin size, great feature package, amazing price used, 145K (near perfect until year 13) 11 years ownership
1) Hyundai Sonata 09 - quietest, largest, best feature package, and great price. 6K+ and perfect so far. 3 months ownership verdict still out

Taking that into account and noting that my target car would have been Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Mazda if I had the $$$ for my last purchase. It all depends on how the Hyundai performs/lasts over the next few years and how broke I am when it comes time to get another. This year Hyundai beat out ford fusion (09) for price/features and buried the above 4 in price. I didn't consider any other brands and only considered Hyundai/Ford due to much improved ratings/reliability over the last 5+ years...

Only time will tell....

Good thinking. People are foolish for ruling out any brand. Many people rule out Hyundai because of the shoddy cars they produced in the 80's and 90's, but they're missing out on affordable and vastly improved quality and reliability. When I'm ready to shop for a car again, all makes in my price and size range will get fair consideration. I'll even consider VW, which really let me down. People are foolish to hold a grudge against a car, which is just an object.

Yes, I would definitely buy another Hyundai. In fact, I did that just about a month ago: I traded in my 10 month old 2009 Sonata GLS 2.4 for a 2010 Genesis Coupe, 3.8 Track version. Had the Coupe not come out, I probably would have kept my Sonata for a long time. But the Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track is to die for: it's the perfect combination of performance and luxury at a great price.

Wow trading in an 09 on a 2010. Some people would think you lost a lot.

I know that is not always so when trading a Hyundai for a Hyundai. Congratulations!

I lost a bit due to normal depreciation, but I owned the Sonata outright and didn't have any negative equity to worry about. The trade-in value of my Sonata was 45% of the cost of the Genesis Coupe, so my payments are very reasonable. In the end, it was DEFINITELY worth the trade.

Oh well that sounds like a lot. In your State did you at least get the 45% Sales Tax break on the transaction?

My parents owned a '00 Elantra and an '06 Sonata when I was in high school. I drove a '00 Accord coupe, along with my brothers '00 V6 Accord, granted Honda has a certain feel that is different from many other cars, including Hyundai. However, both Hyundai's were good vehicles and are still going strong right now. Both Honda's are gone and I purchased the Sonata from my dad as my first car, because it was the car I wanted. So as far as I can say, I have had over 10000 worry free miles and will always consider Hyundai in the running.

Yes, I got the sales tax break here in Maryland. And not only that, as part of the Maryland stimulus plan, I can deduct the full value of the sales tax off my state income tax for 2009.
