Hey Guys,

I just picked up an 08 GL without the radio. I found on E-Bay a unit from the 06-07 years. Can anyone tell me if the wiring harness is the same? If so, I'd like to pick it up and plug it in.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris there is talk here (have to search) that the 08 cars have a different wiring harness than the earlier years. I do not know this as fact but have read posts of others that are angry that the 08's can't use non-OEM radios b/c the harnesses aren't available yet.

Thanks Guys,

I did see those posts, however I wasn't sure if that only applied to those who had the 6 speakers in the car, or the advanced unit with the xm, etc already in it.

The dealer said this car only has 4 speakers.

You should easily be able to see if there are 6. If there are, you will have 2 small perforated areas, one on each door, near where the door meets the front of the car.

As it looks, there's a speaker in each door and a speaker on each side in the rear.

I should have been more specific. There will be 2 large perforated areas at the bottom of each door, and 2 small ones on the top of the door. Then there will be the 2 in the back of the car.

Sound like you have 4. That was too long and complicated for simple math. I'll shut up.

the gl model does come with speakers, it just doesnt have a radio.
I found that out when I installed my clarion unit. The radio wiring harness is plugged into the back of the plastic cubby holes.

You do not have the 6 speaker setup. if you see the small plastic panel near the top of the door panel where it meets the dash.
That panel would have a second perforated piece sitting on top of it.

There is threadon here somewhere with a picture of the factory tweeter location.

Did your car have a single plug or the multiple plugs?

New models are not interchangable, and were no harnesses available when I did the stereo in my car, had to have someone hardwire in my aftermarket headunit. If you are putting in an after market stereo, running amp wires is simple, just remove the panels along the doorsills, open the clips and close them over the new wires. Power comes in through the firewall on the driver's side, take off the cover (10mm) push the wire into the engine bay from the cab, and cut a slit slightly smaller than the wire in the rubber boot. I hid my wires well, the fuse block is screwed to the fuse/relay cover, and that's the only place under the hood you can notice anything. Inside, the amp wires can only be seen where they pop out of the panels and dive under the rear seats.
