curious what real-world results my fellow 2000 Elantra drivers have had with synthetic oil.

I'm due for an oil change (56K miles currently) and am getting tempted by all the Mobil 1 propaganda. They even sell a 0W-30 synthetic for enhanced "Fuel Economy".

What you say good or bad about synthetic I wonder.

Hi,

I'm using 10W40 AGIP sint 2000 full synthetic. I was using Castrol 15W40 and it was a bad idea - revving the engine up was much slower. Sorry, don't have any experience with Mobil 1 brand but if it is full synth I think it should be ok. I was also skeptical about Agip, but now I'm not.

Full synth it is!

cheers

97 Elantra 5sp 185K miles
Used sync since 63K. A lot of Walmart stuff.
Getting rid of because of Rust.
Only motor work has been wires and plugs.

thanks guys.. I'm typing this from the lobby of my dealer right now, they are putting in Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w-20 and a Mobil 1 filter (nice sale at autozone this week, $17 off the combo).

So I'll update with how it goes!!

I use basic 15w40 mineral oil. Never had a problem with any of my cars. I change the oil and filter regularly at 6000 miles; never had a problem with engine wear. I've heard that fully synth can leak from the oil seals on older cars.
