hi
i bought my 2007 accent in dec 2007.
i have noticed that the brakes are starting to squeel/squeek when i am stopped (not all the time but it does happen). it this normal for a new car in less than a year for this to happen? what is causing it?
is this something covered under warranty? i just can't believe they'd already be worn (almost 20,000kms on it now). actually i can since i got a lemon to begin with, but the brakes haven't even been inspected yet in the regular maintenance schedule...it's coming up.
should i tell them about it before the year is up?

your well beyound the adjustment part of the warranty so if the brakes are gone, you'll have to pay for them.
it's more than likely just dirt on your brake rotors.
i woulnt worry about it unless it's constant...
btw, what's making you think your Accent's a lemon?
I have 26,000 kms on mine and it's been flawless minus the defective tire which really inst hyundai's fault anyways.

since i bought the car i have had a problem when i go to excelerate. the car quite often bangs into gear, like a harsh shift, usually from second into third. it's an automatic. i have gone to two dealerships and BOTH told me it's 'normal' and one service manager even told me that the car doesn't know what gear to put it in and so is knocking it down two gears and hence the bang...and this is supposedly 'normal' for hyundais. LMAO! So he refused to fix something that is normal. i took other accents out for test drives and they did not (of course) do this.
i have FINALLY found a dealership and technician that acknowledge that there is something wrong with my car and that this is not normal. so we are now in the beginning process of trying to figure out what is wrong. next week they are going to reset the computer and see if it has something to do with the adaptive learning (although i doubt it). hyundai canada suggested this be done first, so whatever.
i can not believe it's taken me a year and three dealerships to get this acknowledged!
i'm gonna give my tech a big box of chocolates when my car is fixed and a hug, that's for sure!!!

thanks for the info about the brakes. i hope that's all it is. i shouldn't need NEW brakes after a year....

You definetly shouldn't need new brakes after a year....unless you are doing some serious braking. Which I don't think you are.

I've had mine for 2 years and the brakes are just now starting to squeal, but that's because of road dust and condensation. (my brother falsly accused my back brakes of being shot, and my uncle is a mechanic who said otherwise.)

I hope that's all it is.

not sure if it would work for you, but often my mail truck (mailman) will make noises while braking, and "Grab" really bad. i find an area that is clear of any obsticles and back up fairly quick and slam on the brakes. repeat about 3-4 times. usually fixes it for quite awhile.

thanks for all of your responses. i will mention it to the tech when i take it in this week for the other problem!

i have another question - i just saw a couple of REALLY BAD chips out of my hood- it's right down to the metal..yeesh...two small spots within an inch of each other.
do you guys think this is something that can be fixed without them repainting the enitre hood - like a spot fix? i just want to be prepared when i get quotes as to what is reasonable...will just putting a bit of paint on it be ok, or are they going to have to do more? i have a feeling because it's down to the metal, that's a little more involved...ugh...

thanks in advance!

here... found it in the OWNERS MANUAL of all things..

QUOTE
BRAKE PAD WEAR WARNING
SOUND
The front disc brake pads have wear
indicators that should make a high-pitched
squealing or scraping noise when new
pads are needed. The sound may come
and go or be heard all the time when the
vehicle is moving. It may also be heard
when the brake pedal is pushed down
firmly. Expensive rotor damage will result
if the worn pads are not replaced. See
your Hyundai dealer immediately.
