I have a black Sonata and unfortunately there are a couple of minor scratches on the rear bumper. There's also another one on the driver's side mirror. How effective are scratch removal products? What's the best way to fix this?

I tried the Hyundai paint pen and ended up screwing it more.

Go to http://paintscratch.com/ - they have a good assortment of products that will take care of scratches. In addition, there are directions for using said products.

The oem paint pen doesn't work very well. The AS SEEN ON TV (i.e. Fix It Scratch Removal Kit) stuff doesn't work at all.

Good luck!

Once again I just recieved a Coupon for a FREE Hyundai Paint Pen.

After buying one in 2006.I would never let a Hyundai Paint Pen EVER

touch my Car again! :w00t:

With Black paint you could use many aftermarket Nail Polish like Paint

touch up bottles sold at the Auto parts store, or a good thick Sharpie pen.

I scraped my Subaru against a Concrete Wall & the Dealer at Trade In didn't even

notice my touch up job, performed in the middle of the night as I was so upset.

I would have then touched it up more, but the Honda bottle did such a great job on

my Subaru. I must have a 'Flair' for Nail Polish type

applicators. Was thinking of painting my Nails too :whistling:

Depends how deep the scratch is. My car got keyed on one side, plus on the other side, one day when picking up my son at daycare another child put a nice "X" on the door (of course the parents didn't stick around a minute to tell me either) Well anyways, I used the Premium Turtle Wax Rubbing compound and some microfiber cloths. The stuff worked phenomenal and I have used it to touch up some other areas since. I still plan on using black nail polish or a sharpie, because you can barely see some little spots where the scratches were mutch deeper. Of course my word means nothing without pics. Here you go:

Excellent work aside from Manson Jr. at Daycare there carving an 'X' in your Sonata.

And who did the other attack? My Car came new from the Dealer beat up, with

scratches, and was weathered looking from the Elements in South Florida. It

looks better today THIRTY TWO months later, although I could have used your

help on my original scratch repairs. Darn Hyundai Pen :w00t:

haha thanks. I have no idea who keyed it. Most likely some "punk kids" walking around with nothing better to do. I had my car parked on the street (remind me to send a thank you card to the neighbour for taking up our entire shared driveway) and I believe every car on the street got keyed that night (I know of at least 4). I'm glad I didn't try the Hyndai pen, and now know to stay away from it.

Brutal. Those don't look minor as they're down to the paint. Pretty well you need some decent paint pens as aformentioned (the ones that don't bubble up and make things look awful, typical of the dealership ones). Part source or Autoparts should carry good ones. Clearcoat to patch it up after too. You could if you wanted take an orbital buffer full of liquid crystal scratch remover. Unfortunately I don't know which scratch removers actually work well anymore. Maguire's certainly doesn't in my experience. I had one in the early days that did wonders - forget the name.

Found this from canadian driver "Only Quixx Scratch Remover did a good job of smoothing out a scratch deep enough to feel with a fingernail."
