I've noticed that the paint on the center cap of my alloy wheels (OEM for an '05 Tucson ) is chipping off. Luckily, the part is fairly cheap (<$20 shipped per cap), however, I'm wondering if anyone knows the proper way to get the existing cap off and replace it?

Thanks in advance! :liebe011:

I would assume that the alloy paint on the wheels would be covered under the 3-year paint warranty (which I'm past) and not the 5-year warranty? If I'm wrong, then great - I'll get the dealer to do it. However, if it isn't covered under the 5-year warranty, I'll have to do it myself and the question still stands.

Also, does anyone know whether the blackout tape that is on the upper edge of the doors (next to the windows) is covered under 5-year warranty or the 3-year paint warranty? A couple of the pieces on my '05 Tucson is starting to peel, and I'd like to get them replaced (preferably for free under the 5-year warranty!). I would argue that it isn't paint, and thus should be covered under the 5-year warranty, but I'm sure the dealer would love to put it under the "paint" category, thus pinning it under the 3-year warranty and forcing me to pay to put the new tape/film on (paint /= tape).

Thanks in advance!

Hi Alison
Ref q1
at the least the dealer can show you/tell you how to remove the centre hubs, if you take the wheel off and look at the centre from the back however you may be able to see how its fitted in (possibly a clip fitting) I have looked through the manual and can find nothing about it in there.

Q 2

I wouldn't have thought that this would be too expensive even if you end up paying and then diy refit but first I would get the hairdryer out of the bedroom drawer and take it into the yard on a long lead and gently warm up the tape to see whether it will restick itself if heat is applied (dont use your fingers/hand on heated tape use a linen type cloth when trying to press it or you may burn yourself)

The dealer may do it under warranty (body) you will have to see if he succomes to your womanly whiles :) just turn it on the charm / help me please type face you women have the nack of making that work but NO HEADACHES OK :)

Cheers

As always, thanks for the response. I would hope that the blackout tape is covered, but I'll find out tomorrow morning. Even if it isn't, I doubt it's too expensive. Unfortunately, the hairdryer trick isn't an option, since is a small strip of tape missing from the top, so there's nothing to re-stick!

I'll keep you updated on all of this "fun"...I'll have to make sure to wear a low-cut top to the dealership tomorrow and see if it gets me anywhere

Wheels and door tape are both covered under warranty for 5 years/60k miles.

Well, it did work for the most part, and I didn't even have to wear a low cut top! They're replacing the blackout tape under warranty - I dropped my car off on Tuesday and should have it back tomorrow. They also gave me a nice Santa Fe loaner, so I've been having fun in that for the past couple of days (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The wheel caps aren't covered under warranty - I suppose the wheels themselves are. With a coupon I have for the dealer, it'll cost me very little more than if I ordered the part myself from a discount website and installed it myself, so I'm just going ahead and having them do it.
