Hi,

I have a 2.0 diesel Tucson (base model) that has electric mirrors but the mirrors aren't heated. I know that the wiring for the mirror heaters goes all the way to the connector in the door because I've checked it - so what I want to do is fit some heater elements to the back of the existing mirror glass/backplates.

What I need to know is how to remove the mirror glass/backplate assembly without breaking anything. Does anyone know if the assembly is retained by any sort of clip or whether it will "pop out" if tugged on hard enough?

Hi hp my favorite id daddies :)

Welcome to these forums and you will see I have attached a couple of the pages from the workshop manual that cover the mirrors. Loads of Tucson owners also met at www dot tucsondrivers dot com and at the British Hyindai owners club http://www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk so come along there as well to meet us all.
In this forum there are many things that have been discussed before and you can search back for almost anything using the search area at the top of the pages.
Put where in the UK you live in your profile as someone who is a member may be within shouting distance and may be able to help you really quickly.

Well so glad you have put finger to keyboard to ask this question we will always try to help its just that sometimes you have to be a bit patient as not everyone logs on daily.

You will enjoy your Tucson (me I am on my 2nd one now and I still enjoy driving it as much as I did the first time I took one out for a test drive.

Cheers for now

Itza

Hi Itza,

Thanks for the welcome, I've joined the HOCGB forum as well to "cast the net wide". I might be missing something but couldn't see the attachments you mentioned?

Re my Tuscon, I had a Santa Fe for two years before I bought the Tuscon new in 2005. Loved the Santa Fe but was looking for something that drove more like a car and did more mpg as I cover about 25K miles a year.

I was, of course, sorely disappointed by the mpg returned by my oil-burner and have since fitted a power box which has improved things a little. As the Tucson is a very good car in a lot of other respects I decided to grit my teeth and put up with it. What's really exercising me at the moment though is the raucous clattering coming from under the bonnet at low revs - two Hyundai dealers have now told me that it's probably the "dual-mass flywheel problem" and want £700 just to look at it and see if this really is the case - with no guarantee that it would be covered under the warranty.

I'm thinking of getting a Honda CRV next time (living in Swindonm and all!)

Cheers.

Well, found the answer on the "tucsondrivers" forum. The (plastic) mirror backing plate has 4 lugs on it that engage with the circular plate in the mirror housing that's driven side-to-side and up-and-down by the mirror motors. I found that there was just enough room between the mirror and the housing to use a screwdriver to just push one of the lugs back slightly and by flexing the mirror at the same time pop it free. The other 3 lugs then don't grip so hard and the mirror pulls away fairly easily. Now all I need to do is find a suitable heater element to use. (And yes, I do know I could just buy the mirrors with elements already fitted from Hyundai but I object to paying £80 for two bits of glass with resistive wire attached!).

HP
Your Tucson is under warranty- take off the tuning box and take your tucson into the dealer and he must fix it under the terms of the warranty- as for wanting £700 up front phone Hyundai HQ speak with technical services ans tell them of the fault and what has been said and advise re the £700 up front cost and ask if they can insist the dealer does things as per his agreement with them as you haven't got £700 to lay out at a dealers whim.
