Hello,

I just purchased a 2008 Elantra SE and have a question about the Hyundai anti-theft system. Is this just an alarm that goes off when the doors/trunk/hood are opened after the car is locked with the remote? Does the car have an immobilizer system? I can't find details about the alarm or anti-theft system anywhere, so I am hoping someone here can help me.

Thanks :)

Its in yer manual...in the index...under...ahem..THEFT ALARM...heheh..page 4/6-4/7....and while i'm not thrilled with the alarm system either (I wouldve preferred a blinking indicator to the scumbags of the word to go bother somebody else's car)...at least the answer to your question is yes..see the bold print on pg 4/7...a part of it reads...THE VEHICLE STARTING MOTOR IS DISABLED DURING THE THEFT ALARM STAGE..and b4 somebody asks..NO its not a motion detector....you can smash the thang with a sledge, or tow it away...and the alarm wont go off...only if you OPEN something... enjoy yer SE..btw, if you want the SE letters, see my post below inder CHROME LETTERS...

does your key have 6 little bumps like braille on each side? If so you have an immobilizer system and a programmable key. If not, no immobilizer.

OK thanks. No bumps on key so I guess no immobilizer, which is strange as the car I had 10 years ago (Honda) had one, but whatever. Hopefully no one will want it that bad.

My theft alarm on my 2007 Elantra was arming itself, without my help, and then going off at random moments. Extremely aggravating. It was going off for ~5 hours on a windy day. just lucky it didn't drain my battery.
The dealer said I had been bumped on the front bumper which misaligned some sensors underneath and this was the cause of my problems. No visible damage to the exterior and it was totally unknown to me. $95 fix but "no way to disable the alarm system." (which would've been my preference) time will tell if the fix worked.
Do you think I can hold Hyundai responsible for disturbing the peace if I can't turn the **** thing off?
Also, park with your nose out in a double-ended parking space.
Anyone else had this issue and is there a way out of the alarm?
