Hi all,

I have a 2007 Tucson and I have been changing oil every 3k miles. I was just told that I didn't need to do it so often Huyndai recommends oil change every 5K miles/5 months. I was wondering how often you guys change oil for your Tucson. Thanks!

H.

I change mine every 3000 as well.

I also only use Hyundai branded oil filters after reading the TSB on the engine noise possibility.

we do our Tucson oil no more than 4k miles at this time since the wife (who uses it) drives more "stop and go".. we waited until about 4,500 miles last time and the oil came out a little on the "black" side, so we will not go past 4k for now... the manual says 7,500 miles unless "severe conditions" for which then it is 3k miles...

I change mines every 6 months or 7,500 sometimes the oil comes out same when i use to change it at 3,000 so in my opinion a extra 3,000 does not hurt unless your car burns a lot of oil.

depends on how the car is driven.. my Sonata goes 5k for oil changes (dino oil) and it comes out fine when changed, but im all highway... the wife's Tuc is more city and 4k+ and the oil looks closer to black(ish)

Recommended by Hyundai UK 10,000 miles/yearly whatever comes first and we put in semi synthetic last year (recommended by Hyundai) and this year FULL SYNTHETIC ( recommended by Hyundai this year!) Pity they only put mineral oil in at the factory when its new as it sounds like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing- Why the difference between UK/USA Tucsons? surley it means Hyundai are whistling thru their ______ doesn't it. A case of think of a number -any number and tell the customer to change the oil at the next number you think of.

Sorry to be so ummpy but why doesn't Hyundai USA -do what every other Hyundai country do and change the oil every 10000 Miles as modern oils are manufactured to make sure that they comply to specifications to last for that period of time and if you change them at shorter periods (good for you) you are spending money unnecessarily- but what the heck its only oil and thats gonna run out -not in my lifetime but my grankids may have a problem caused by current unthinking adults who dont give a dam.

Sorry again I'm still umpty- must be something in my eco system.

Cheers

last time I waited 10k miles to change the oil in one of my cars, the oil was so dirty it caused my cam solenoid to go bad.. $1,400 and 3 weeks worth of diagnosis later my car was working again (granted it was a Ford)

does Hyundai UK recommend 10k MILES, or 10k kilmoeters?

Here is what I took off a site that advised re servicing.
Hyundai Tucson 2.0 CRTD Premium (4WD) 5 door Warranty & Servicing ScheduleWarranty 5 years / Unlimited miles Servicing Schedule 10000 miles

http://www.carpages.co.uk/guide/hyundai/hy...dr-warranty.asp

So why is yours in the US Less?

Suggest that someone in the US asks Hyundai USA WHY? OK

Cheers

maybe because that is for the 2.0 CRTD and the US doesnt have that.... (not very fluent on overseas models, but isnt the CRTD diesel? doesnt it burn cleaner overall?) maybe that is the reason.... i dont know...

but what I do know is that if I waited to change the Tuc oil for 10k miles, the vehicle would drive quite poorly and start sputtering...

oh, and when I clicked on that link, it tells me it is down for servicing... maybe it was getting an oil change... :P

Hi
R U using ordinary mineral oil or synthetic? if you are using mineral oil try a couple of fills with synthetic as I know you will be able to stretch those oil changes- It must cost you $$$$$'s for changing the oil- Yet even the petrol models here are 10k miles each service-us brits would not be happy if they weren't as oil costs a fortune here.

Its difficult to describe average driving, but usually every 6mo/6k miles. If you fall under severe driving conditions, then the 3mo/3k may apply. The oil itself doesn't wear out, the additives do and the buildup of condensation, wear particles and fuel byproducts cause the need for an oil change. Daily driving where the engine reaches normal operating temps for at least 15 minutes and lack of extreme hot or cold ambient outside temps, minimize oil degredation. Oil that is "black" has no indication whatsoever that the oil is anything other than doing its job. Black oil can be perfectly fine for several thousand miles. Oil has improved dramatically over the last 20 years and the 3mo/3k change is overkill for the vast majority. I would agree to use a Hyundai filter reference the SB. A synthetic or semi is better oil but you still have the issue of contaminents and oil filter changes to rid the oil of debris. A better description of your type of driving would yield a more accurate answer.

On a new car with a tight engine, I change oil and filter every 5K miles. On older cars with more wear and blowby, I'll change every 4K miles. I use synthetic oil and a Purolator or Wix filter (no Fram for me!!).

What is the issue with the TSB about engine noise? If it's a good idea to use an oil filter from the stealership, I'll certainly do it.

The SB had to do with lifter noise at engine start because of some poorly built oil filters would not provide any oil from the filter because it had all drained back. In short, any quality filter would work fine, nothing special or unique about the factory filter. I know because I cut several open when this SB came out and I decided which oil filter to use.
