I have a 2002 xg350 with 84k miles. The timimg belt has never been replaced.
I called Hyundai dealers and auto repair shops and received varying quotes ranging from $550 to $900. The trade in value of the vehicle is about $3,500. The car does run great.

Two repair shops told me not to replace the belt given the cost and likelihood that other things will go wrong with the car. They also said that the belt is generally good to 120k miles. Is this good advice? Does it make economical sense?

I realize that no one can predict the future but I would like to hear some educated opinions on this matter.

Thank you

Welcome to the forums!

The life of the belt is about 7 years, or about 100K miles. If you are going to trade the car in soon, Dont worry about it., If you not, i would change it, because if the belt breaks, the engine is toast.

the timing belt on an XG should be replaced at 60,000 miles or five years whichever comes first, sure it may well last longer that that without breaking but it might not......if it snaps it will cost you megabucks.....do you want to take the risk?
what you have been told about the belt being good for 120,000miles is total xxxxx

ohh, good point, sorry about that. I was thinking about our Acura Tl-S. That has the 7 years 100K miles. The Xg350L has the 60K 5 years.

You might also check with some other dealers on the trade in. I traded in my XG350L (2002) with 89,000 miles on a new Genesis and got $5800. That on top of a near invoice price on the Genesis V8 Tech . . .
