New here.. thinking about buying a 1998 Elantra tomorrow.. everything on it is great aside from the front passenger wheel bearing.

How difficult is this repair? What tools will I need?

I'm traveling 127 miles to get it.. I'm wondering if I could baby the car back to my house or if I need to fix it there. I have no access to a trailer/truck.

As far as experience goes.. I've pulled the head on early 90s Honda Accords.. replaced valves.. etc.. I have replaced a driveaxle once on a 92 Mazda Protege..

So.. just looking for a bit of advice here ;)

They're asking $1300.. A/C works, paint is great, 140k, auto, great tires, everything looks good.. but they said their mechanic said the car shakes and that it is the fault of the wheel bearing.

to change the front wheel bearing you will need access to a press as the old bearing needs to be pressed out and likewise the new one pressed back into the hub, it's not too hard to do (if you know what your doing) but there are pitfalls, $1300 sounds like way too much money for this job, shop aroud

It can be done without a press BUT a big pain and lots of time.
I used a vice, torch, and 2 lb hammer on my 1985 Golf to do both sides BUT that was 15 years again and this time around I just paid a shop $20 to press one in.

Good luck and go for it.
