I am attaching documentation that I used to fit a Witter tow bar to my Tucson and the job is very straightforward- different makes may differ slightly.

Hope it helps

Hi there,

We towed a caravan with our 2007 Tucson V6 and after a while the rear chassis and sub frame cracked and atarted to pull away from the car. We had an independent mechanical engineer inspect the car and he found that the sub frame is thin and weak and the car is not designed to tow the weight it states in the Hyundai specifications and if you put an after market towbar on it voids the warranty and if you put a genuine Hyundai towpack on and change the tongue/hitch it also voids the warranty so please BE AWARE!!!!

Cheers,

Nomads.

What weight was your Caravan- I saw some in OZ when we visited but they are heavier than UK Caravans as they are built on Solid Steel Chassis whereas ours in the UK are a lot lighter.
My Hyundai uses the wittar towbar (put on by the dealer)and after 2 years use hasn't harmed my chassis at all. I think it may depend on weight to be towed and type of bar plus its fixings. Have a look at http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/ and see how they attach to the rear of vehicles.

Cheers

Our van is an Adria 432PX, made in Slovinia and imported into OZ, it only weighs 1300kgs fully loaded. Hyundai ruled out weight being the problem, they are just blatently blaming the after market tongue. We have had a qualified mechanical engineer inspect it and his findings are that the genuine towpack is inadequate and the rear of the car is thin and weak. Hyundai now want to get an independent engineer to have a look at it as they obviously don't trust their own. Doesn't say much for Hyundai's engineers does it? We will keep you posted.
Cheers,

i am thinking about getting a hayman reece tow bar fitted to my 2005 V6 so that we can hook up a trailer when we go camping. Nomads, any chance you could ask your engineer what sort of weight he reckons the backend could cope with? with three kids, their toys alone will take up almost a tonne (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) , and then there's the trailer itself, and better pop in a tent or two....
