Hey everyone!

I'm nearing my 45,000 service and a dealer in Modesto is recommending a fuel system "flush". Is this required to keep my warranty intact? Sorry I don't have my owners manual to look this up. They're charging about $150 for it.

What say you?

mentions nothing about a fuel system flush in the manual at ANY interval.. your dealer is "recommending it" = not a necessity, but they want to get more $$ from you...

this is a money making scam, your fuel system is being flushed out constantly as fuel goes through the system it's only the filter that would need changing at the makers recomended intervals

Wow.. my three local dealer ALL told me that I don't even need to change the fuel filter or fuel air filter and that they are not serviceable.
I showed them the manual, and they said that it is a generic manual for all cars but the fuel filter does not apply to Sonata's. I was stunned that all local dealerships told me that.

Fuel FILTER i would say is certainly a serviceable item. although, not necessary to get serviced unless something is wrong..

Fuel tank AIR filter is something that is not easily accessible and would never need to be serviced unless something is wrong with it..

in a way, they are right, but the Fuel Filter is something that i would think might need to be serviced one day

I love it. The Pat Goss radio show, I think, was one of the prime movers behind the "flush it" movement. He particularly pushed brake flushes - in between pushing BG products.

If you think of all the things that could go wrong in doing a brake flush and then take a close look at who does this sort of work - I think you will have second thoughts.

On the other hand, maybe you like the idea of some meathead getting air and dirt in your brake system.

I like the battery inspection scam also. Looking at a sealed battery (almost universally used nowadays) would be about as interesting as staring at a tree - and about as useful.

Have you noticed the ads at the top of the page match the topic in question?

BG fuel system cleaner. Good stuff just don't let it leak on your seat. It will not come out.

Get some of the BG 44K from the add/link. It does work and works well IMO. I used to use Techron regularly twice/year but noticed no difference. One can of 44k and difference was felt very quickly.

Top teir gas etc still clogs up fuel injectors. You need a little more oomph to get them spraying correctly. 44k at my local dealer was about $14 per can.

To the other posters.....
Maybe watch where you go but a brake fluid flush is HIGHLY recommended at least every couple years. I didn't do it on my old car for MANY years (front pads lasted 90k) You should have sen how disgusting the fluid was when I actually went to do it :w00t: . My brake warning light was coming on even though reservoir was at least 3/4 full. so much junk had settled in the resrvoir that every turn caused the float to trigger the low fluid light. It was a photo cell that would sense low fluid when the float covered the eye. I had to remove the reservoir and replace it as it was that dirty and stained. Second issue was the bleeders rusting in place that caused headaches.

Lesson learned the hard way. Brake fluid flush is mandatory. I do have a Motive pressure bleeder which makes it nice though. Clean new fluid in container hooked to master cylinder. Open farthest bleeder until fluid runs clean. repeat at each wheel, done. Fresh clean fluid ready to go.

I would agree usually every 3 years and you should replace the brake fluid. Water enters the lines and causes the master cylinder seals to wear as well as rusting the caliper. This will prolong the use of the caliper as well as all of the brake components.

I'm not sure on the Sonata but even if you flush the system out there is some fluid that stays in the ABS modulator. Usually after a flush you need to trigger it to go off so the crud is removed from the ABS modulator and then another flush is needed.

Not sure how the modulator but it's lines in, lines out. The pressure bleeder forces all the old fluid through being replaced with new all at the same time.

:bwekk: This is also another scam!! :bwekk:
Unless you mean more quality brand name gasoline. Not higher octane gas.

PS Don;t forget the muffler belt :bwekk: :bwekk:
