Hi All,
My Gradeur XG 3.0 is stalling at the lights. Engine just turns off. Dash lights are still on.
Also, when travelling at e.g 100kph, car tachometer starts to flicker up and down a few thousand revs (engine revs stay the same) and then car turns off at 100kph.

Took it to local Hyundai who had it for three days who cant locate the problem. (no fault codes being recorded).

Hyundai first indicated it could be the Air Flow metre and tried to charge me for one however, I managed to ask for a loan one from the workshop and try it out. No success. ($500 saved though by not having to purchase the AFM...)

Hyundai now say that it can also be alot of other things (e.g. Crank/Cam sensors, loom, ECU) but want to charge for every part and labour regardless of if its the problem...

This is becoming a really dangerous issue as it stalls a few times a day everywhere/anywhere and its my wifes car with 2 year old baby.

Anyone found this problem and resolution:
Your assistance/advise would be really appreciated!

p.s car radio also turns on when it wants to (but thats a minor issue for now)

First things first, how technically minded are you ? Do you have any mechanical knowledge/aptitude ?

Second, does the car stall in any other gear other than Drive ? What other symptoms does the car exhibit prior to stalling, and does it have any problems starting again ? In the meantime, if the car does stall at speed, shift it into neutral, and try restarting as opposed to trying to pull over and do it.

A couple suggestions to look at :

Failing fuel pump
Failing fuel relay
Malfunctioning immobiliser

Let us know how you go.

Thanks greywolf:
Am OK technically, basic tune up but limited with Grandeur and Electronics.

Tested the new Battery and alternator with multimeter: Appears fine both when car is off and when on. Constunt steady charge. (12.5 and just under 14 when on)

Car stall at the lights and when travelling in any gear.

Symotoms: Tacho either turns off along with car OR flickers just before and then car turns off. Appear to be worse in the morning and cuts out during acceleration in the first 100 metres then, turns off at the lights.

Yes, am restarting at Neutral now thanks.

Any help?

ALL, to close of this thread:

Was the Crank Sensor causing problem. Replacement including labour was $454 Australian and car is fine.

Hope this helps anyone else going through the same as it has been an unpleasant experience resolving this.

Take care,
Mars

Hi,

I am having the same problem as above, I drive along happily then all of a sudden my car stops, I pull over turn the car off and then turn it on it starts fine and off I drive, but not something I would like to have happen on a regular basis, I am also having trouble getting the car to unlock and lock and have to push to immobilizer several times to get it to work, I was wondering if they are related as a post above suggests and how on earth do I open the immobilizer to replace what I assume is a battery inside? When I bought the car I only got one key/immobilzer which I was not that happy about either (second hand) it is the M key.

Thanks a-j

welcome to the forums :00000732:

the two halves of the plastic immobilzer come apart, just prize the two halves apart with a small blade or knife.

as to your other point, does the CEL come on?
