Hi folks. I'm a newb on this form as you can tell. I've got a small irk with my Sonata, and wanted to know if it happens with anyone else.

For the life of me I can't figure out from where - but when it's cold outside and I throw on the hot air, my dash creaks. If it's hot outside and I blast the AC, it creaks. So it's a flex issue with whatever compound they use for the dash or to keep it on? Anyone else have this problem? Should I even care?

I just wanna know if I'm alone here really. That way if I'm not, I might have a leg to stand on when I get into Hyundai to ask them about it . I have to bring it in get out some other "new car" bugs like bad factory balancing on the wheels.

I believe it's the dash air outlets creaking as they expand and contract. Try pressing on them when you turn the heat on...they will make the same sound. Mine does it briefly...but I have an '08 and they are slightly different in the '09.

Last winter on a really cold morning I noticed and heard the same thing. But as the car warmed up, the noise went away. I have'nt noticed or heard any noises or creaking when using the AC.

There have been posts about creaking in the past. Some have had windshields replaced and/or cardboard stuffed between the windshield and the dash. I guess it all depends on where your "creak" is coming from.

Are you sure it's coming from the dash and not the point where the windshield meets the dash? Just a thought...tryin' to help.

1962....that was a good year. GEWB's post deals more with a rattle/buzz coming from the glovebox/air vent area. I've done the fix. New top seal on a major stretch of road I drive brought "these" rattles out. I haven't quit fixed it yet....but I'm working on it. Lookin' at a Mazda6. :whistling:

Thanks folks, I'm going to check it out to ensure I know exactly where it's coming from. It doesn't seem to help when I put pressure on the vents themselves so it must be somewhere else. Maybe windshield...
