I have an '03 Accent hatchback and I'm having a hard time figuring out if it has 180mm or 200mm drum brakes. I've looked around online and it doesn't seem to be real clear.

I could just take them off and measure them but I figured if someone here knows that would save me the time.

You should register at Hyundai Service Website for full access to service manual for all Hyundai products. There you can get specs for various systems of your car as well as troubleshooting and repair instructions. I guess you would be mainly interested in the Shop part of the website.

From that website for the 1.6 L 2003 accent:

CODE

Rear brake (Drum)

Drum I.D. mm (in.)          180 (7.09)

Thanks for the reply.

I took apart my rear brakes yesterday and they are 200mm. Not only that, but the procedure for taking them apart is different than what's in the hma service manual (I've had an account there for a while).

It appears that I have to take the axle nut off to get to the brake assembly (once the drum's off), but I don't want to get to crazy if I don't have to. I also don't want to pay a mechanic if I don't have to.

I don't know why my brakes are different than what they show in the service manual; anyone else dealt with this? I may try looking at the manual for an elantra or something and see if it's more like my accent.
