Hello everyone,
Just got a new 09 Sonata GLS automatic for my wife, 2.4L. I think we got it for a ****'of'a deal...$15K.
My question is - what is the difference between the 2.4L and 2.4L PZEV?
Thank you.

According to the Hyundai website, the PZEV engine has 168 hp verses 175 hp for the ULEV. I could not confirm what Hyundai did, but in my other car, which is also a PZEV, the manufacturer added another catalytic converter and uses a slightly different ECU mapping. The car also weighs slightly more because instead of using a plastic gas tank, which apparently permits gas vapor to escape, a PZEV uses a metal gas tank.

That's one heckuva deal on the 09. In fact, it sounds impossible unless it's a program car. Is it?
I don't think there is any difference in the 2.4L and 2.4L PZEV... at least nothing substantial.
OK, now you got me worried here...what is a "program car"...?

QUOTE(mdale007 @ Sep 30 2008, 08:22 AM) Welcome and great deal.
PZEV = A Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle is a vehicle that has zero evaporative emissions from its fuel system, has a 15 year (or at least 150,000 mile) warranty and meets SULEV tailpipe emission standards.
Right, I knew what PZEV stands for, but I am pretty sure they have the same model (can't remember where I saw that) one is ULEV and one is PZEV. Also, I did not hear anything about 15/150K warranty, the only thing that was mentioned is the standard 10/100K. [Edit] OK, I saw it at edmunds.com...for what it's worth (see attached).

A program car is a car used by the dealer either as a service loaner or a demo car. Or some auto companies use program cars for their execs to drive. I don't think rental cars are considered program cars, but I could be wrong on that.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to this forum!!!
This is definitely not a program car, it had 139 miles on it, it's not a loaner, it is a brand new car. We picked it up tonight and although my wife drove it home I did take it for a short ride. It is a great ride!! I love the XM radio (how cool is that to listen to Fox News in the car  ), however I don't really like the blue radio screen....very hard to see at night even if I dim the back light down.
The MSRP is $20K, they had $3K discount which puts it at $17K, minus another $2K rebate - total $15K. Don't know if this is THE reason for it, but it is a relatively new dealership - around a year and a half, not one of those mega dealerships that have been around for 20-30 years - and they are about 40 miles away from Boston....I believe that the farther away from the big cities the lower the prices are. I think it's a hack of deal for a 2009 2.4L automatic car with an exceptional warranty. I am driving a 2005 Accord EX and I checked with my dealer, best they could do is around $21K for a LX model.
Thanks again guys. I'll definitely be around for a long time as we are not planning on selling the car after 2-3 years, this thing is a keeper.

:amen:
So I take it that just as in the Accord forum, here too people are arguing 24/7 about which is better and why you picked 2.4L over V6...?

Fitzmall will sell a GLS at $15,900... so you got a really good deal. Maybe that dealer has a sneaky way of qualifying you for one of the loyalty or first-time rebates.

QUOTE(MsSonataLuvr @ Oct 2 2008, 10:28 PM) didnt know it was fake dual exhaust.
This will probably be a little over your head (no offense intended or implied), but here goes anyway. The dual exhaust is not "fake" per se, because they are actually functional exhaust pipes. Exhaust gases actually do pass through the two mufflers and two exhaust tips. However, it's not considered "true duals" because the two pipes combine into one for a while before splitting again near the rear of the car. True duals would be completely independent of one another from the engine to the rear bumper.
