At times it feels like my 06 Accent's automatic transmission slips. What happens is when driving along the car seems to go into neutral and revs to 4-5000rpm. I can stop and restart the car then all seems normal. Any tips on how to figure out what's wrong?

On the way home my check engine light came on and I pulled a P0734 "Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio". I've read that my tranny may have to be replaced, but I also read that a new pulse generator would fix it. Any ideas? Thanks.

If its the tranny don't even deal with it. That's my advice. Take it to the dealer and tell them what code you got from it. If it's under warranty, it'll be covered.

Yeah. I have to check if I even have a warranty. I bought it second hand with 47k miles on it and am unsure about the warranty. Thanks.

I've only had it three months. :(

So, the check engine light came back on and I took it to the dealer and after four and a half hours the service manager told me Hyundai had refused to fix it. He said even after hours of back and forth with them, they weren't convinced that my tranny needed to be replaced.

He essentially took my side in this ordeal, and I commend the dealership for being straight forward with me, but he said the only way I was going to get this problem taken care of was to have the tranny totally fail, then have the car towed in for repair. :(

I'm so disappointed with Hyundai.

That's weird, I have never had problems with Hyundai, just with the dealer. Between us we have one competent combination.

Take the car to another dealer. I had a throttle sticking issue on my wife's '06 Elantra. The first dealer tried to claim that the throttle body was gummed up (it had 2,000 miles) and wanted $100. I knew it was a scam so I went to the second dealer who saw the problem (I brought it in revving at 3500 rpm in neutral) and immediately took the car in and gave a Sonata loaner. They replaced the throttle body assembly and cable and realized there was a product liability issue if either of us had a wreck because of it. If you don't get satisfaction call Hyundai USA yourself. If that doesn't do it, threaten publicity for not standing behind the warranty. More than likely you won't need to go that far, but act as if you will.

So, for any of you in the future who may run into this problem- after taking it in every day for a week and a half and demanding they contact Hyundai about the problem and after weeks of run-around from Hyundai they finally agreed to have my transmission replaced and I got it back yesterday. The service techs at the dealership were awesome, Hyundai was another story.

All is well that ends well, I guess.
