Just thought I would pass on a little more info re the IPOD cable connection after a few months...

1. IPOD used is a 2nd Gen Nano (2 similar IPODS tested with current firmware)
2. 09 Sonata with the Hyundai Cable

From past post you may remember that we had problems with our IPOD connection. heres what we have found:

Leaving the IPOD connected and the radio on when the car is shut down results in the IPOD resetting to the first song in the play list 3 out of 5 times.

3 times since December the IPOD locked up while connected to the cable when the car was started with radio on.

When we turn the radio off an then shut down the car results in the IPOD working normally retaining the position on audio books or remembering the song being played, when the car is started and afterwards turning the radio on.

Under rare conditions the IPOD continues playing.
3 out of 10 times the IPOD battery is drained the next morning. (this may be the same event)

The dealer checked the cable and said all was OK.

Has anyone seen similar results? Seams like it might be Noise on on control lines.

Any thoughts?

Your iPod expects a stable electrical environment. Cars don't provide that, especially during startup. The dip in voltage while cranking, followed by the surge from the running engine's alternator, is likely out of spec for iPods, USB drives, etc. The Owner's Manual sez to disconnect them before starting the engine...

The Owners manual actually says to disconnect USB devices like a flash drive. When it gets to the IPOD section this is left out. Possibly should have been inclusive?? hum...

The interesting thing is that my monster cable IPOD connection used in my other cars has a power connection to the IPOD that is direct from the main power feed of the ACC connection e.g. right off of the lighter socket with no regulation or filtering. So the noise / voltage spike and voltage fluctuations as found in a vehicle doesn't necessarily effect the IPOD. Looks to me that they have an unstable data connection off of the Stereo.

Only problem I have had is that it seems that the tracks are in order instead of random when I leave it on. But then again I have only shut it off once when shutting the car off & it actually worked shuffling songs random instead of in order by alphabetical...

If anyone is interested in knowing whether or not to buy this for the 3G iPhone. I'd say buy it.

You might get ocassional interference if you don't turn airplane mode on on the phone, but it's not really that bad anyway. All functions work that I've tried except pause/stop. I can turn the radio off just fine thanks, or flip it to AM/FM/CD/XM.

I can't tell you how happy I am with this product. It makes life so much easier. I can see what's playing on the radio display, I can jumble songs, change playlists, get amazing quality audio..and never have to take my eyes or hands off the dash to fiddle with the thing in my hands and be completely off the road.

Thanks for this product Hyundai!

Here are my findings on the iPod cable. I have a 2009 Sonata Limited.

I leave the iPod plugged in and on all of the time. I have a 5G 80GB iPod. When I shut the car off, I leave the radio on the Aux/iPod, and just turn the ignition off. The iPod automatically pauses and remembers the location of the track and order.

When I turn the car on, the radio screen shows "iPod loading" and the iPod automatically starts playing at exactly where it left off.

If I turn the car off when the radio is on XM, FM or AM (or CD), the iPod doesn't remember the track location and starts at the beginning of the track.

The cable charges my iPod as well.

The above also holds true for the USB drive as well. Leaving it on Aux and turning the car off results in the song continuing when you restart your car. If you switch to XM or FM and turn the car off then the USB goes back to the root folder or plays the first song when you select Aux. I don't have an iPod, but i'm using a 8gb thumb drive without an issue. You can buy one now for $30.00, one reason I cant bring myself tp buy the iPod. I also have a PPC with an 8gb card that I use at work and yet another reason I cant buy the iPod. The only thing I would like is to create playlists but don't feel like spending $200+ to do so.

Go go USB!!!!!
