Hi!,

I was wondering, before I drive down to my dealer, if it is possible to upgrade the factory base model, no-name, cd/mp3/satellite 6 speaker stereo in a 2009 Sonata, to the Infinity one that comes in the expensive trims with the subwoofer, etc. ??
I see the open spot for the sub in the back deck. So I'm wondering can it be done, can the dealer order it and install it? Do you think it would be worth it? Are their more features and/or is the sound noticeably better?

thank you!

I'm guessing here, but I'm pretty sure the wiring harnesses for the premium stereo system aren't built in to your car, so adding the amplifier, sub and additional speakers would not be a task that most dealers could do.

For what it would cost to have the dealer do it, you'd probably be much better off going with aftermarket.

It would probably be considerably cheaper and easier to just go aftermarket.

Probably but it's gonna be hugely expen$ive

No

6-disks instead of 3

No

Agree with morrjr; you'd have to retrofit the wiring somehow; there's no wiring in the trunk for the (weenie) factory amp.

It's cheaper to change to an aftermarket radio and amp for the door speakers. You can go with a trunk-filling, body panel thudding, neighbor-annoying sub but you don't have to. A small, 10" powered sub is enough unless you're addicted to bass. My Infinity Bass Link makes more than enough for natural sounding bass.

You might want to talk to allmet over on the Azera portion of the forum and ask his advise.
He seems to know considerable about the Hyundai radios at least in the Azeras.
I believe the Azera radios and the Sonata radios will fit in each others' mountings? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/puzzled.gif)
Don't ask him about anything else! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/devil.gif)
Worth a shot anyhow. He should be able to steer you correctly on your question. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/amen.gif)
