Okay maybe i am retarted  But.. When i bought my 09 sonata a couple months ago and traded in my 06 Sonata LX i wanted to keep the same rims as my 06 and whats currently on the 2009 SE. This is my personal choice but i think the Euro Flag wheels on the 06's LX's and the current SE's look better than the current Limited wheels now. So i had the dealer to change my rims off my 09 with for the rims of a new 08 limited. I Know the sales manager thought i was was weird but i thought they looked more sportier. And sense you cannot get leather or a nav on the SE i had to go with the Limited.

Okay so anyways they did that and on the way home after i paid for the car the TPMS light came on.. I went back to the dealer and they reset it. However after about 20 miles it came back on and has stayed on. I know its due to me changing the rims and tires out but i was wondering if they can ever get this light to go off? They were unsure at the dealership.. so.. i might try to take it to another dealer and let them reprogram it again. There are two lights for the tire pressure system. The TPMS which is what is on now. And the the low tire pressure light (!). So does anyone if i will ever be able to get this fixed? Or has experienced this. But it sure does look good with the other new wheels on it.

Since the TMPS system monitors air inside the wheel / tire combo you might have a problem. Both will go off since the system sees no pressure. It also sees a failure of the system e.g. no sensor in place. Look to Tire Rack or one of the major Wheel manufactures and see if they have an aftermarket fitting to add to wheels to retain this function. I would be surprised if the dealer can defeat this function.

Oh ok. But the rims that were installed on my 09 were new ones from a new sonata also. Is there not a way just to reprogram the sensors on the tires to the computer on the car? It got to be a why since there are new hyundai wheels switched from one sonata to another. Same wheel size and everything. I could see if they were toyota camry wheels i put on my sonata but sonata wheels should equal=sonata wheels. Unless the 08 limited wheels have a different sensor than the 09's? hmmm guess the only thing to do is take it to the dealer and cross my fingers. He said he would put the 09 limited wheels back on it if the light dosen't go off. But i would like to keep these more sportier wheels.

With luck all will work. Does the dealer have any bare wheels in stock you could look at to see the sensor? Check part number? If its a only configuration thing the dealer must have to be able to do that with wheel replacement so they should know how. You are right the 08 wheels are sportier. The 09's have that New tech Euro look to them. But they are pretty easy to clean. :whistling:

I always though (!) meant the parking brake was engaged..

It did in my old cars anyways. They would even beep and such.

Newer cars have parking brakes that will automatically disengage when you get on the gas...pretty cool.

Once I saw a brand new RX300 being towed by whatever municipality I was in......
It's parking brake was engaged and the thing was squealing like a stuck pig rear tires being burned to shreds......

Moral of the story: Don't park illegally/tow zone with your parking brake on...lol

Yes, the TPMS system can be reprogrammed. According to Hyundai's service web site, each TPMS sensor has an individual code, and that code is stored in the car's computer. If the TPMS sensors are replaced, the new codes have to be programmed into the computer. I believe there is a TSB that covers the TPMS system.

Your problem is your dealer...they do not know what they are doing. Take it to a different dealer and hopefully you'll have better luck. I had the problem 6 times before I wised up and went to another dealer....haven't had a problem since.

Aren't the sensors in the valve stems? When you switched wheels did you switch the valve stems?

yes, the sensors are in the valve stems (for both years). the dealer didnt get the computer to recognize the new TPMS sensors, they just reset, expecting it to link up (from what it sounds like)..
