Hi,

I need to decide (and quickly) if I should go for the OEM Santa Fe cross rails or third party ones such as Thule/Yakima. I will need to mount either a cargo basket on the roof or one of the cargo bags (basically add some way to carry additional luggage).

I have an 08 SFE, 7 seats, towing package, roof rack rails installed.

I did some reading here and am a bit confused whether I will be able to use cargo baskets such as the Thule M.O.A.B basket with the OEM rails.

Does anyone know? I'm OK with spending a bit extra cash for the OEM rails, they look good in my opinion, if standard Thule/Yakima equipment will fit on to them.

If on the other hand, if using the OEM rails means I always have to go with Hyundai accessories such as this expensive Hyundai cargo basket, I would rather forgo the looks of the OEM rails and get standard Thule/Yakima rails...

Thanks in advance, this is a bit urgent, if you please :-)

Thule accessories work with the factory cross-bars. I'm using the glide-and-set Thule kayak saddles on the Hyundai cross bars. The Hyundai dealer kayak saddles are identical to the Thule kayak bars. I think Hyundai must get them from Thule without the Thule logos.

maseace - if you could post the Thule kayak saddle ref/parts number, I'd be grateful. These for 'regular' kayaks or big enough to take sit-on-tops?

I went with the Thule cross bars and am not disappointed at all. The main reason I choose the Thule bars over OEM is that I can use them on almost any vehicle down the road, OEM cross rails will need to stay with the Santa Fe. The price is about the same for either route, ~$300. They also seem to be more secure, can handle any accessory, even my Yakima Kayak rollers and Macko saddles. I recently changed to the Thule hull-a-port pro cradles to hold my kayak, it handles my 16 foot touring kayak just fine. Loading the kayak is easier with no potential scratches on the Santa Fe, I literally just toss the Kayaks into the cradles. Also, with the Thule bars you have a lot more room to mount accessories, I can easily fit three sets of kayak cradles, or a kayak and a roof box. I have a set of bars for my jeep that can fit two kayaks and my roof box, although I always hit my head on the bars!

Eric

Thule Glide and Set is No. 883. It can be adjusted for just about any kayak size.
