Agreed, probably will do step 1 with ArmorAll before even mentioning to dealer.

This is one of those little problems that shouldn't be a big deal. I just imagine someone else (like my daughter) being completely clueless and then needing a new solenoid, fuse, wiring, or whatever to the tune of $$$'s. All for something that was a manufacturing defect to start with. Past experience teaches us these things.
