Well, hold down the throttle then. :P

Back in the day you could manipulate idle speed, but there's not much of a way I know of to tweak it on modern engines. The computer takes care of all of that.

glock, more than likely you need the factory scan tool to set the idle. Some cars have "codes" you do if you dont own the factory scan device.

Im going to buy the FSM this week, I will let you know when I get it.

uhhhhhhhhh. if your still looking. i think i found the culprit......... look at the throttle cable and where the spring thingy is. there is a torx screw that you can tighten and loosen and i would assume that if you tighten it, you would idle a bit higher because the butterfly valve would be open a bit more..... im going to try it for you i just gotta find my torx set

If it's anything like my 1998 Prizm, one cable is a the cable that controls when the car downshifts, and the other is the throttle tension. Adjusting the throttle tension WILL make it idle higher, but it will also mean your car will always be revving higher than it should/needs to be.

Basically it's just like keeping your foot on the gas, even when you're not moving. It will not affect your topspeed or anything since the throttle can only open so much anyway.

Gee maybe you decrease the draw to something less than the space shuttle and the OEM system will keep up. On the otherhand you could put a higher capacity battery/generator in and refrain from running accessories until the engine is started. There is no way to reprogram the factory ECM to alter the idle map. HTH
