Hi there,

First of all sorry for my very bad english, I'll try to do my best to explain my problem so you can understand. I am a french guy so be kind :D

Car : Hyundai Accent '01 GS 1.5L

When I try to start the car it crank normally AND fire. The engine rev-up to ~2000 rpm maybe less, probably less just like a "normal" start. Or just like it ever started since i have it (3 years). But, the engine will die just like there is no more fuel. And I can do this again and again 3-4 times until it starts and keep running. When it's running if a give it to much fuel it will start to rev down to ~200 rpm and have a rough idle just like it's running out of fuel. I just wait and it stabilize to ~800rpm. So i need to be easy on fuel for the first 2-3 minutes and then everything run just fine. If, after a successful startup, I just turn it off and try to turn it on again it will just start and run okay, just like nothing ever happened. I'll have to be easy on the fuel though. When rough idling or the engine just shut down the check engine light doesn't flash. My check engine light it always ON since 2 years I think. Maybe there is a new code, but I'm afraid that when they will take the code from it they repair every thing and not only what is important to my eyes. Not that I don't want the check engine to disappear, but i'd like to see my car running okay before getting this check engine light off which is probably caused by a faulty oxygen sensor.

So this is it. Normally this happen when the engine is cold. There is at least 8 hours since the last time it ran when the trouble occurs, sometimes less, but it's because it's colder outside so the engine cooled faster... It never happened when the engine is hot or enough to show on the temperature gauge.

First I thought it might be the wires or the sparks plug because I've never changed them since i have it so I made the move and changed everything. That didn't changed anything but it was needed wires were slowly dying and spark plug were dirty enough. Someone told be it could be the fuel filter. I'm considering changing it, but i'd like to be sure. I won't change it if not needed, because if it's not working i'll need to go see a mechanic anyways...

Thanks all,

Palin

A dirty fuel filter can cause that as well as a fuel pump. I had a problem with starting and running, but i just replaced my plugs and wires and that fixed my problem. It sounds like it def a fuel delivery issue. What are the codes your getting with your check engine light? This may sound crazy but a mass air flow sensor can also make your car run rough and at times stall out.

Hope i helped

Jay

Thx Jay for the answer.

I have don't have any ecu code reader is there a way like with trucks to get the code from the car itself using a special order of buttons. I explain myself, with trucks you have to push some buttons in a special order to get the code in the ECU the check engine light will flash indicating the code stored in. I don't think it's the same with car, but if it exist i'd like to know otherwise I don't have the device to check it. So maybee i'll just go and ask my mechanics to repair it...
