Hi All.

I've owned an i30 Style 2.0 CRDi for 3 weeks now and covered about 600 miles. From new I've noticed a slight hesitation or flat-spot on changing up to a higher gear. It's hardly noticeable in normal driving unless I try to make a quick gear change as when pulling out at a busy junction and getting up to speed quickly. On getting back on the throttle after changing up, the engine just seems to die for a split second leading to jerky progress. I thought at first that it was just my lack of familiarity with the clutch/throttle timing, but I'm sure now that it's the engine and I'm fairly sure it's not turbo lag.

Any ideas or similar reports?

Welcome to the forum nlm.

I have the 1.6 cdri and I also get a hesitatition sometimes. Put it down to turbo kick in at 2000 revs as per advice from dealer.

There is a site, mainly oz members, dedicated to the i30 so it might be worth looking at it as it might answers some of your questions and give you pointers etc.

It has a section for the petrol model and there are several members with the 2l petrol.

OK - According to honestJohn it's the engine protecting the drive-train from hard shifts.

Could well be the case - and it seems to be getting better as I put more miles on it - or else I'm just learning to drive the car better.

In any case it's just a small niggle with an otherwise excellent car.

By the way, the Hyundai diesel engine uses an electronic throttle control in the inlet tract - just like a petrol engine. It could well be the response time of this component that leads to the perceived throttle lag.

Perhaps the re-map this Friday will fix it completely - can't wait. :)

I know by reading posts on Kia Ceed forum a remap this has resolved acceleration problems.

Not been a reported problem by other i30 owners on the other site.

Post the results of the remap.

My car is going in for its 1st service at end of month so may ask them to check but it's useful to have info otherwise they tend to fob you off.

Hi eye30.

The re-map I'm referring to is from Superchips - 172 bhp and 363 NM torque. :P

Update on throttle response.

I've just reset the ECU by lifting a battery terminal and the poor throttle response has returned - so it looks like this is normal behavior and probably has something to do with learning algorithms in the ECU software.
