I only had one major project for the summer, to build a fiberglass box which would allow me to put my sub in the spare tire well.
Normally a fairly simple project, and shouldn't have been as tough as it was, but what a killer. I ended up spending about 3 months of weekends in the garage since early spring, and what I eventually ended up with was nothing like how I had begun.
My first try was laying fiberglass mat in the spare tire well on top of a release layer, well, apparently my glassing skills have severely deteriorated, because this was a disaster. The form is good, but the quality is not. There are huge air bubbles throughout and it was a waste of good materials.
Next I thought I would simplify and build a basic wood form and stretch cloth over it, then glass that. Well, that worked, except I built the form wrong. BAH!
Finally, third times the charm. Still using a wood bottom, back and top, with automotive carpet stretched around, then fiberglassed.

I don't mind saying myself, it sounds awesome! I have 2.2 cubic feet ported to a frequency of 32 hertz. It gets LOUD off 700 watts rms and still sounds musical and not at all boomy or hollow. I have enough room to expand the hole to fit a 15" or possibly 18" woofer if I go crazy, but currently it's perfect.
Now I just need to build up the sub floor about 1.5" to cover the box and provide a nice solid floor and I'm done.
If you are interested in having one of your very own, I might be persuaded provide plans and detailed instruction, but unless you are willing to pay an exhorbitant amount, I won't be building any more.
Unless I get stupid and decide to change mine.... but probably not.
