I have my AUTO setup to to 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit).

Let's say it's freezing cold outside and if I turn on AUTO warm air will gets in. Let's say it very hot outside and if I turn on AUTO cold air will get in thanks to A/C.

But when the outside temperature is around 20C (68F) and AUTO mode is on how can we know if A/C is on or not?

Wow, that is one of the reasons I try not to use the Auto function. Good

question though. While the A/C led will not remain lit, you should see the

words AUTO & AC displayed at the top. It is a screwy system that seems to work

good in the Auto function, but the Compressor also provides the Heat if I am not

mistaken, so in essence you are always running the unit. I could be wrong about

the last part here. Hey why do you feel the V6 Sonata is not a performance Car?

It is faster than every Car I have owned including the Turbo 2.5 Subaru Forrester

& my 400 CID V8 Dodge Charger :trophy:

I have never seen A/C sign appearing while in AUTO mode even though I had some very cold air coming out of vents (like when the car is parked in the sunlight).

Air conditioning is great in Sonata, it's just that controls are not intuitive.

Hey, Sonata is a powerful and fast family car but it's still not a performance car. If Sonata was considered a performance car then what should we call M3, RS4 and cars like that?

Look again for the words "AUTO" & "AC" at the top on your System.

Does this unit look the same as the one in your Sonata. And to think we paid extra

for the Auto System which amazingly worked better than I thought on a recent trip

through the hot Southern California Desert. We do know it is a low load

compressor, and again I think it stays on almost all the time in Auto. That is why

they decided to make it NOT :w00t: light up Green. If you just press it on

manually it will glow. The good thing though, the Sonata A/C hardly uses any

Gas, and can blow Ice Cold air even in 115 degree Heat

You know it's in auto mode if it's screwy - everybody says the same thing.

I don't use auto on my LX's, and haven't on any of my other cars.

So what everyone is saying is that if it's 65* outside and I just want outside air, no A/C to save the compressor runtime and to just get natural outside air... I cannot do this at all? No matter if I use the "Auto" mode or NOT? It seems if I turn on the fan at all, I can sure feel colder air than outside. Even if I bring the temp to within a few degrees. It just wants to use the A/C it seems.

And what the heck is the button on the right for? The one to the right of the recirculate button?

Hope to have this cleared up once and for all.

It all depends on your cabin temperature,in your case, if cabin temperature exceeds +68F degrees, then the AC will come on (activate) to reduce the temperature, if cabin temperature drops below +68F degrees then the heater will activate to raise temperature to +68F. Also, on my '07 running in auto mode I see no AC wording, only see it in manual mode, I assume this is because both AC and heater are active in Auto mode.

ElkScout, I'm not sure you've mastered the operation of the system

quite yet. Many complaints have been mentioned about the lack of

cold fresh air using the fan in the Sonata. Hey that V6 gets hot.

I guess this all depends where you live, but if you are feeling Cold Air on a

Warm day you are using the A/C, I would think. Press OFF the Auto system

and never engage it again! Oh and that button on the right is the AQS System.

It detects bad smells and puts the system in Recirculate mode. You have got

to read your Manual!

I'm the first to agree with you, but I have had cars with an "auto" system before and they did have a vent option where the A/C compressor was definitely off. The Nissan 300ZX is one.

Thanks for the info on the AQS system. I did read a blurb about that, but not about how to engage it.

So if I just turn the fan control on and off, the compressor is still going to come on depending on what the temp is set to, right? There is no way to FORCE the system to NOT!!!???

No if the system is not in 'AUTO', I believe you won't see

your 68 Degree Display (btw isn't that too cold? My home unit is set

at 84 :w00t: as it has been over 110 here) and then just use the fan by turning

the Dial.

So Press OFF the big AUTO button, press on the A/C Button and it will light green.

Then press the A/C off, and the fan will blow lukewarm to burning engine air!

Mine functions great in manual mode. If the system is already on, and the A/C light is on, turn the A/C off by pushing the button, then push the OFF button on the right knob. To turn the system back on in manual mode, with NO A/C compressor running, regardless of temperature, just rotate the fan knob on the right and the fan will come on. You can then rotate the left temperature knob to set the temperature. Even set all the way to the left, to "lo" the compressor does not run and the system is in manual mode. If you at any time change the mode to defrost, either by hitting the lighted button to the left of the display, or changing the mode to show windshield heat, the compressor will come on. Hope that helps. I was bummed at first because I thought I couldn't turn off the compressor.

Miami: The compressor runs for A/C and dehumidification only. It does not operate like a "heat pump" and provide heat.

Oops: to answer the question: When the system is in "Auto" the compressor will run with no indication that it is on...

Thanks MiamiLX and boehmb!

Your info helped and I was able to run it in vent mode just fine while lowering the temp setting. Very pleased!

Thanks all!
