So, I'm the mod who complains and nit picks, but to prove that I still love my sonata, I'm gonna tell yall a story.

She's a 2006, GL V6 with sunroof+17"s, black with chipping paint and 69,000 kilometers.
Bunch of mods, and a good stereo and I love her to bits.

We did a shade over 1500 kilometers/930 miles in a shade over 11 hours yesterday, most of it through very twisty rocky mountain passes.
Average speed was right around 135kph/82 mph with occasional bursts of more, and very occasional moments around 70mph.

She made 8.31 liters/100km, or 28.31 miles per gallon.
Keep in mind the altitude and the elevation changes in the mountains and realize that this was some pretty serious driving, not rolling along in North Dakota or Texas :)

After 1500km, I was ready for another 1000 except I was mentally starting to slow down, and I was already home.

Cliffs notes: Long trip in high mountains, driving fast through twisty passes, had blast. Got great mileage and was comfy cosy all the way.

I was just thinking the same thing on my daily trek for Food in 110 degree heat.

I have had the LX since early 06, and although I've done no Mods, the Car is

looking cleaner and brighter than the day I bought her. And I love it. Yes I had

been thinking of trading in the Sonata on another Sonata as I could use the Cash,

but they are not worth that much anymore & besides I only have 16,000 on the ODO!

And it seems that the 06 Models are now time tested & have proven themselves

as quality American built. Besides the Motors growl is almost as mean as V33's

Sonata before he blew it up. It is a blast to enter our Interstate at full throttle

and feel the speed. Someone here wrote today the Sonata isn't a performance

Car, and that might be true, but it out performs every Car I have ever owned!

Have to reply to both of you, Last month went up to the Black Hills in SD. Did all the twisty turns and the downhill grades. Went faster than posted speed just to see how it would handle and was impressed. Round trip was about 1600 miles and averaged 32- 33 mpg. Also love to hit that interstate on ramp and let her go. No problems. As far as the V-6 Sonata not being a performance car, let that be up to the owner. I get a kick out of using the manual side of the shift-tronic. And it is kind of cool to really bark the front tires, which it does with no problems except for when the vehicle next to me has a red light bar on top of it, but that is another story.

Yea the V6 Sonata is a kick, and 32/33 MPG is outrageous.

Have you noticed that many Light Bars on Cop Cars have no

Red at all, until they press the Button for all the Colors to come on. And they

use Mini Light Bars here, some that must Pop up?

Im sorry but you just can't tell if it's a cop nowadays :w00t:

That's even worse when you blow by a car on the interstate with no markings or lights, until you pull in front of it and you see a blinking grill in your rearview mirror and a growling wife next to you.

Mini-light bars....kinda like what they call "slick tops" (no light bars). My favorite MHP traded his slick top in for one with a mini. Still didn't spot him. I complimented him on that new car and all. Still got a darn ticket. Doughnuts be damed. Taylor is his name AND tickets are his game ( and paycheck I presume). He's got me in the Mustang X 2 and the Sonata X 1. He walks up and says hi "how are the dogs?".

The 'pop-up' light bars seem to be exclusively for the Highway Patrol in my area.
The "color-less' low-profile light bars are really a spectacle when they are lit up.

Little less than a month ago I took the Sonata to a camping trip in PA.
Friend was in a new Jeep Grand Cherokee V6....
Let's just say passing on the wrong side of the road (well it was a passing-allowed zone) was a BREEZE as we tackled hills, curves, and mixes of hills and curves with turns banking up to what felt like 25-30 degrees.

They're now using the ultra thin LED bars here.
Clear and about 1.5" thick, almost impossible to see, but the cops still all drive like jerks. No signals, not running headlights till well after dark, cutting through traffic and speeding like maniacs, so they aren't too tough to spot. :)

Amen to that brother.

Recently, in New Jersey, a cop and his cop buddy (two lieutenants!!) were in a rental dodge viper driving 95 mph in a 45. They ended up wrapped around a pole and the passenger died from his injuries shortly after.

Even more recently, and closer to home (for me), I believe it was a state trooper.
On the Northern State PKWY by me, a trooper pulled onto the highway without lights on, emergency or headlights, and was struck in the side by an oncoming vehicle. He spun out was struck by another vehicle and is still in critical condition.

Once I almost hit a Bergen County sheriff who was PERPENDICULAR to the roadway in the middle of a 50mph HIGHWAY with NO LIGHTS ON, HEADLIGHTS OR EMERGENCY LIGHTS....at around 2 in the morning. This happened right after a long sweeping right on the highway and I swerved hard into the left lane to miss him. He was pulling into a well-known speed trap area but I don't know why he was in the middle of the road backing up with no lights on.... The speed trap spot is a lawyer's office that is very often used at night to catch speeders because the speed limit drops to 50 mph in the area.
It was the only time in my life I every got to highbeam and honk at a cop!!

I WISH it was!! For some reason the backdrop looks similar to a previous picture of my SONATA that I took. (Not the ice covered one...)

I am a student at the moment. Military sciences (ROTC) / Police sciences major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan.
I will probably stop studying Military sciences, because to continue in the Reserves Officers Training Corps (ROTC) I will eventually have to make a 6 year commitment to serve.

I hope to join the force once I am out of school and I hope even more to get into the highway patrol division of my county's police department. They have some seriously bad **** Dodge Chargers with low-profile lightbars that unfold to become a few feet tall.

Ok wow! How are you V6's getting over 30 on the highway?!

I just did a near 1000 mile round trip from ABQ to Denver with the cruise at 79...and a lot of A/C but averaged only 29. I've gotten 32 in the winter on a trip before, but only once.

The trip didn't have many twisty's but I went from 5300ft (ABQ) through the 7800ft pass on the Colo/NM border back to 5200ft (Denver). I guess the thin air caused my lower mileage?!

A lead foot and a grin gets me 30s all day long.

I'm not much lower in altitude than you are on a daily basis, and during this trip, I was right around 7000-8000 feet for a good portion of it.
