the headlights on the sonata are very bright in general and illuminate well. the only problem i have is this: during the night, when i turn on the headlights, there is a very sharply defined cone of light coming out from them (and not dispersed, as with other cars). you can actually see a sharp line where the lights illuminate (especially around the periphery) the surroundings and where they do not. this is very distracting during night driving, as the almost feels like looking thru a windshield that has fogged up, and you can see only a part of the road.

when i turn on the high beams, the light is very good and takes this issue away

trying to describe the problem to the best of my linguistic skills here...does anybody have ANY idea what i am talking about?

i am thinking about changing the angle on the headlights to see if they can illuminate higher up than what they do right now.......

comments???

It is b/c the low beams are projector style headlights, and the high beams are the old fashioned non-projector style. It is good to focus the light where it is needed and to not shine too much light on on-coming traffic.

High Intensity Discharge lights which they have on most of the new cars today... I would have a set on my Sonata but they don't make HIDs with the H11b bulb base yet...

Correct...And they probably won't ever.

As a side note I bought H11 adapters online and eventually plan on converting the lights into H11s. I need to splice the factory wire into the new sockets and remove the bulb connector piece from the bottom of the bulb opening. Overall it doesnt appear too difficult but I feel wierd doing it since the car is so new. But... Try and find a replacement H11B bulb anywhere except the dealership. The base of these two bulbs are identical, except the B bulbs have the intergrated connector.

I purchased the H11 sockets from Auto Illumination, cheap enough.
They are the ceramic high heat connectors.
