Open trunk, remove the 2 screws on the tril light assembly flange, if working on the passenger side assembly:
lift out the left side (2 screw side) about an inch or so and push the assembly to the right, that will release that sides hold-down from the two plastic pins holding that side.

p.s. Use the correct replacement bulb for the break/tail light. On my 2000 it's a 2357
The old 1157 will work BUT the break light filament is not as powerful.
Always use the exact # called for. If it's a used car -- don't assume the one that's in there is correct.
