I am about ready to proceed with the installation of a Sirius Radio in the lower crash console compartment of my 2009 Sonata SE.. To do this I must first remove the center console and associated parts. I have read and reviewed the online Hyundai Service Manual and viewed all of the drawings and procedures.. BUT... before I start I have one question.. The procedure they describe says that you must first remove the shift lever handle (knob), then the plate under it. I cannot find a set screw on the handle and am afraid to try to twist (unscrew) it off if possible without finding out the correct way first.. All to many times I have damaged an item trying to remove it only to learn later that there was an easy and safe method of doing it! Has anyone removed the shifter handle on a 2009 Sonata and if so.. how did you do it?

I'm not sure about the 09's, but the 06-08's twist off (unscrew) like you mentioned above.

Good luck and be sure to let us all know what you find out.

just pull up on it. It's got a tension clip inside, and it just pulls straight off with enough force. Don't try to unscrew it as it is notched on one side.
