After driving my 06 LX at night on occasion, I can see that my fog lights are aimed down so significantly that they just light up the road about 5-10 feet out it seems (and to the side). I'd like to get a bit more value and function out of them by raising the aim if possible.

Can they be? If so, how?

Thanks,
Steve

There should be an adjustment screw underneath the light that you can turn.

Do you have to take off some of the plastic road protection panels first to get to it then? I'd rather not take that stuff off if when I get in there, there is no adjustment. I'd like to know for sure.

My 06 LX is the same. I'm not so sure it's an aiming issue, I think they're just crappy fog lights. I haven't checked to see if they're adjustable, but I never use them anyways.....

Seems like you guys are confusing fog lights with driving lights. Fog lights are SUPPOSED to be aimed down at the road, whereas driving lamps are supposed to be aimed farther away. The whole purpose of aiming fog lights close to the car is so the you see the road immediately in front of you. Driving lights are meant to light up things in the distance, and generally have higher wattage bulbs.

You are correct to a point, but they are aimed so far down that if I was driving in the fog, they wouldn't help much and I'd have to go so slow since they only help light up the immediate area in front. Fog lights spread the light out farther to the left and right, but they should still extend out in front of the car. Obviously not as far as driving tho nor as narrow. I'm just looking to gain the maximum advantage from these things.

I hardly use them as well unlike those goof balls who can't drive during a sunny day without them on. Anyway, I digress... :D

But when I do use them, I'd like them to add the max lighting possible.

As has just been discussed, fog lights are meant to illuminate the road close to the car in foggy conditions, driving lights are good for further away in clear conditions.

But our lights are really neither of those, our lights are cosmetic lights, and seem like they're just there to look "pretty" and give oncoming traffic an upscale impression.
Mine weren't aimed badly, but they didn't seem to help much in fog :)
I'm pretty sure they can be adjusted, but it's pretty snug in there for the passenger side. I just removed mine entirely so I'm not much help. :)

They are lousy foglights, but they make great daytime running lights:

they do a great job of lighting the periphery and help illuminate animals which might cross your path... I use them all the time on country roads for this very reason.

At night, pull up next to a wall and turn on your fog lights to notice how they illuminate the periphery, then you will see how useful they are.

Is there a way to have the fogs on all the time, i.e., anytime the key is in ignition?

Whatever they are they work pretty well to illuminate the sides of the roads.
In my parts that's a good thing cause you never know whats lurking...

In answer to your original question - YES. I just burned out a bulb and installed 893 bulbs (37.5 watts) in both fog lights I also aimed them up higher. There is an adjustment knob that turns just below the light bulb socket. It is hard to reach, but I did it after I put the panels back in place. It's tight, but if you have smaller hands you can reach up between the panels and feel for the knob. a couple of turns brought them up to where I was happy. NOTE I have converted mine for daytime running lamps. They aren't much good for anything else.

Thanks willsboattail... I appreciate the confirmation. I'll see how much valuable light I can squeeze out of these things soon then.

Our Canadian models all have DTRL's standard...my model does not come with the factory fog/driving lamps. I was wondering if anyone had installed aftermarket driving lamps in a Sonata that wasn't equipped.

Has anybody used the factory openings which just have a plastic grill filling the hole or maybe modified the filler grill to house aftermarket lights?

If you can't find the adjustment some aluminum foil works fine.

An adjustment Will? I'll look for that if I ever have to change the bulbs.
